Bottle top filters

2 questions:

1. Are PTFE, PVDF and Nylon bottle top filters all pretty much equal or is one superior?

2. Are the sterile bottle top filters that come with the plastic receiving container good to go or is it better to use just the upper filter screwed on to a glass media bottle?
I read on another forum that the plastic receivers often crack without much suction pressure and if you're filtering ethyl oleate, it can partially dissolve the plastic receiver. Is this correct?

Nylon in my experience is the superior filter. Filters quicker for higher concentrated solutions and can handle more volume through it before getting plugged up... Then there are also the factors of the different solvents that don't work well with PTFE, pvdf like the ethyl oleate in your second question... I don't have any experience with the plastic receiver bottles but the glass media bottle are definitely very strong, I wouldn't want to risk losing all the solution especially when glass with a bottle top filter is inexpensive.

Thanks. I guess the big downside with the glass media bottles is that they need to be sterilised each time, whereas you don't need to worry about that with the complete units

Another question. After the filtering is done, then what are the next steps before transferring into vials? Unscrew the filter from the bottle quickly so it's not exposed to too much air and put some type of large rubber stopper or septum on the bottle? Then put a needle through the stopper/septum and draw out the oil into a syringe before injecting into the stoppers in sealed sterile vials?
