Brief exercise sessions as effective as one long session

A study shows that short bouts of exercise are just as effective as one continuous session in terms of burning calories, losing weight, and improving aerobic fitness. Researchers from three universities divided a group of 30 overweight female college students into four groups:


# Those who exercise for 30 continuous minutes five days per week
# Those who exercise for two 15-minute sessions per day, five days per week
# Those who exercise for three 10-minutes sessions per day, five days per week
# Those who did no exercise


After 12 weeks, women in the exercise groups increased their aerobic capacity and significantly lowered their Body Mass Index (BMI) and body fat, while the women who didn't exercise gained weight.
