I'm assuming it can depending on if your body is use to running or how heavy of a guy you are. A buddy of mine experience hip pain after tread workouts. He was 285 and started to rotate his workout to walk..run..walk...to relieve the stress. I guess your shoes could also play a role.
believe it or not back when I was a skinny runner and ran everyday, i found that the more I ran the more my hip flexors loosened up and my hips would klick when I ran.. if your not use to running or start off to hard or fast then yes it's very possible.
