Can you cut filter paper to size?

This might sound slightly stupid and I've never done this before but I'm in a slight predicament.

My buchner funnel has broken so I've borrowed one from a friend to replace mine. Only issue is that this one is smaller than what I have so my filters won't fit inside them.

Can I cut the filters to fit the exact size that I need?

Yes you can cut it as long as they overlap all the filter holes. It sucks trying to cut a perfect circle. Is your funnel the "sandwich" type or the type that goes into the bottle with a rubber ring to seal it? Either way as long as you cover all the holes you should be fine.

It is a glass buchner funnel so I just place it on the white stone bit, hope I'm making sense.

Ill try cut it and let hope it goes well, would suck to have to buy a whole new pack.

Is this the type your using or something similar? If so the worst thing I can see is that you will have some overlap at the joint and you may have a bit more product leak by but it shouldn't be an issue.

Very similar but not quite, same principle I assume. Worst case I'll just have to buy another one if all else fails

Had to chime in as I would hate to see someone lose an arm or leg

Are you using a buchner funnel to sterilise the oil? I really hope not....
I haven't brewed anything up yet due to above reason. Buchner funnel is what I've got available currently. What else would you suggest?

It's too much volume to use syringe filters before that gets suggested

If it lays flat on top of the stone without being the sandwich type I wouldn't cut it as there is a chance oil could seep by the edge since it would be hard to cut a perfect circle.
I think I'm just going to have to order a sandwich type system. Its annoying as my current fittings won't work with it but what can I do. This seems much better anyway to be honest.
