cholesterol meds and weight-training

My doc wants to put me on lipitor or something like it to control my cholesterol (not induced by AASs BTW). I've heard reports that anti-cholesterol meds can cause muscle weakness in some individuals.

Anyone out there with knowledge about the subject?

Of all the statins on the market, Lipitor is the least likely to cause muscle weakness. It can cause some cramping in the beginning. I break my doses in half and found that to be effective at lowering cholesterol and I do not get cramping (or very rarely). I am towards the end of a 14 week cycle and I made excellent gains (for a 49 yr old) and had limited sides. By the way, Lipitor lowered my chol from aroung 300 to 147...the stuff works.

Muscle weakness only occurs in a very small percentage of people who take statin drugs. In fact in the UK they're about to make certain statin medications over the counter. I'd say try it and watch for any bad effects.

You could also try taking policosanol, red yeast rice, and flax/fish oil. Unfortunately all the men in my family (myself included) suffer from genetic hyperlipidemia, but this combination dropped my cholesterol from 250 to 145 and my triglycerides from 550 to 200. Pretty dang amazing.
