Clean and Jerk

I have allways avoided these as an Olympic lift with no use for me in the bag of tools.Well now that im not worried about getting huge anymore I am interested in these lifts.Im more on the road to getting strong as all hell and in shape.I wanted to know what benefits the clean and jerk has had for any one who has given them some time.Did they have any carry over to other lifts? What kind of effects over all on the physique did they have?I have been watching some youtube clips in slow mo of this lift being performed and have to say its a bit intimidating watching it be done proper.Looks to me as an explosive movement that involves every muscle of the body.I have some routines I am dead set on sticking to and a part of me just wanted to change the clean and jerk section to the old clean and press. But I am sticking to the prescribed movement and going to learn it.

So your power clean is g2g, no form issues? There's transitioning exercises that make learning the olympic movements easier. For instance, learning to Push Jerk first would be helpful. If it were me, I would want to be using decent weight with good form on the PC for a while before anything else. Maybe incorporating a press at the top like you said, or even a Push Press, which would be better and also be close enough to the Push Jerk.

I did consider the power clean first as its okay but not g2g.I can clean and press 225lb 8 reps if that gives you an idea of where im at as a base.

They won't have direct carryover to your major lifts. They will help with explosiveness and power production though. The Olympic lifts are basically dynamic effort powerlifts just better in some ways bc you cannot do them slowly like you could with powerlifts. Well you can but then you're not racking the clean....

They really helped bring my traps, shoulders, and upper back out aesthetically speaking but the biggest benefit to me from them was learning to explode with a weight.

Bill Starr is quoted as saying, if he could do only one lift for the rest of his life, it would be the power clean.
