I'll tell you why. The question seemed innocent and reasonable enough. The real problem is in the answers. How do you, as a newbie, know you can trust the recommendations? A lot of scammers show up to give bad recommendations. Sometimes they pop into your dms. It's a dangerous game. That's why the veterans try to shut it down. Of course, there are some guys that just enjoy being rude jerks. If a friend asked me, I would give him a recommendation. I can't do that with a new guy because he doesn't know me from a scammer. So, my refusal to help is actually doing the new guy a favor. It's a kindness perceived as unfairness.
