still dont remember what HW is. I dont have a floppy drive on that cpu. I am not sure i understand the configsys or whatever also. I will probably bring the damn thing in on monday or tues

Bringing it in sounds good. If you can get me lines 12,13, and 14 of your config.sys, just write them down (with no floppy).
To do that, click 'start', 'run', and type in 'sysedit', and hit enter.
6 windows will pop up in an editor. The front 2, are the ones I'm interested in, and mostly the config.sys (2nd one).
Just count down 12 lines and start writing. Do 3 lines worth.
That's your homework assignment for the weekend? (grin)
Go home for lunch today and get that, and maybe we can get you going for the weekend, to load XP even... but whatever is convenient for you man.
HW just stands for hardware, and I was refering to the driver installation that windows automatically tried whenever you plug something new in (hw wise, like a dvd player, hd, etc.)
If you click the wrong thing, windows will refuse to ever see that device again, because you told it to ignore it.
But look at the initial HW screen on bootup, hit pause when you see it, and it lists all of the HW on your system, every HD, every cdrom, etc.
Hit the 'pause' button, and it will freeze long enough for you to read everything and see if the computer knows a cdrom is actually attached. If it DOES, then we know the problem is windows for sure.

lol, thanks for the homework assignment Mr. NEO lol. Okay, i am leaving for good early today. My son has track and field day so I am watching that and than headed to the city for the weekend. City look out. I will try and right those lines down. The pause deal doesnt work. I tried pushing it and it still loads up fast. I will write in what you said and see if i can get the lines

plans got shit on so i havent even left town until this evening. I am on my bike today so i couldnt bring the cpu in w/me. I will do the homework and kick the shit outta this problem. Talk to you Monday and thanks again
