yeh i agree with what you say we have the same issue in australia with the young generation. i found the biggest issue is the young fellas dont give a fuck, they have no passion, no pride in there work and most of all no fucking back bones.. they cant even carry timber on there shoulders lolI was at a construction leadership class and the biggest obstacle for our industry in the future is going to be finding qualified workers. For every 3 retiring there is only 1 filling the position.
Form work carpenters are a niche skill. You have to be talented and resourceful. A lot of it is problem solving especially on remodels.
Yes they are cool ties, they get greased up before and spun out after it sets up. Also drop anchors wiith coil rod for uplift in the existing footing.
I like to call it spray form lol, couldn't live without it or there would be a hell of a mess for clean up.
On tight pours with tough access I use a mix with super plasticyser. Usually a 6 slump. Anything without cant be over a 4.
Concrete is a stressful material. The old timers have a saying g that "concrete waits for no man" meaning u get one chance and it sets fast. You better have your shit together. If not it is a COSTLY mistake. Have I told you how much I hate concrete pumps or pump trucks. When shit goes bad it goes epicly wrong.
Nice! You finish concrete to?another cash job, 90 cubics metres of concrete

Nice! You finish concrete to?
Did you finish all of it by hand?
It's funny I used to work as many hours as possible when i was paid hourly. At the job or on the side. Since I became salary I try to work as little as possible. It really does change you.

Got a question for some of you cement guys. It’s a small front yard project. See pic of area planned below:
The area between columns is 3’ x 13.9’ or 42.7 sq feet.
The next area is 8.5’ x 9’ or 76.5 sw feet.
I was thinking pre-mix bags of cement. My questing is should I get some sand as well if is the ore-mex adequate?
Thanks y’all.
still busy as with that itchy stuff mateThis is the job I've been on lately, it is a pretty tough install.View attachment 101062 View attachment 101063 View attachment 101063 View attachment 101064 View attachment 101065

im not sure what you guys have availabe where you live but i can go to the local landscaping shop nesr my house and buy 'concrete mix' which has all the stone and sand pre mixed then all i got to do is buy bags of cement and at that with water
doin the maths on your measurements you need roughly 1.2m3 of concrete(thats allowing 100mm (4inchs) depth. if you was to buy bags at 20kg you need a shit load. could you not order 1.2m3 from your local bath plant? also by the time you fucked around mixing and placing u may be chasing ur tail trying to get a good finish on it if your inexprienced.
i found that pre-mix bags of conrete go off very fast. there good for fence posts etc but i would do a small slab like that with them
You have a nice home @kap73,i started to build a deck at home the other day, will finish it when im home next
i got the concrete for nothing, rang my mate at the local batch plant around 2pm when i know jobs are finishing and asked if there was any trucks on the road with leftovers. got 2 different trucks sent up. used roughly 1m3 for the holes i dug them extra deep hoping i would grt lucky on the concrete lol ended up getting 40mpa crete aswell

Have a little experience with cinder block and 4’ slabs. I totally forgot about 4” depth. Would 2 or 3” deep crack on an area not high traffic, if any for that matter?
20kg bags, that’s what, 40lb bag? The Lowe’s my way has 80 pound bags. I have a small trailer to haul with.
The chasing you tail part, you talking about the cement drying too soon?
You have a nice home @kap73,
I pour concrete for a living (flat work and decorative) the trucks where I’m at are front load, the driver never has to get out of the truck only to put on chutes and wash out.
Yes sir, I’m from USA. I’ve never used a rear end truck so I don’t know how to compare the two. I have a buddy that says he likes the chutes coming out of the back the best.
Yes I poured and finished that, pecan color concrete with charcoal antiqued powder release.did u do the finish on that? looks like an intense job
i think both trucks would have there qualities. our biggest trucks hold 7m3 of crete, one problem with the rear shute trucks (not a common one but it happens) driving up very steep hills theres been times where the mix ran out the back of the bowl
Yes I poured and finished that, pecan color concrete with charcoal antiqued powder release.
Our trucks will hold up to 14.75 cubic yards but state law only allows them to haul 10 yards at a time.
My buddy says the guys that operate the rear trucks usually are more precise and do a better job where as front load drivers are lazy and tend to either pile it up or come up to short
