Dead Lift Question

Thanks for the great post's of late guys, I've learned a great deal.

My question is this. Due in part to a nagging knee injury, I find myself first bending at the waist as I begin to return the bar to the floor. I feel an unnecessary pull in the lower back that did not used to happen.

When I try to force myself to bend my knees first as I lower, I somehow am leaning far enough forward so as to cause my knees to jut out in the path of the bar.
Any advise you can offer would be appreciated.

I work alone so it's hard to have someone watch and tell me what I'm doing.

I did not have this problem before the knee got bad. I think I've "learned" horrible mechanics.

It's odd I can pull a lot of weight, but the descent is killing me.

Sounds like you need to stick your ass out like a duck. You are probably rounded out on your descent. Shove your ass out to put the load on your hams a bit and then lower.

Your body is probably protecting the knee....if you are using bumper plates, just let the weight come down faster (but dont drop it)....or dont use as much load.

Hogg knows all about ducks so listen to the man :D . On a serious note, have you thought about video taping with light weights and concentrating on form. Than compare that to video of you pulling heavier weights? You might be able to see what's going on that way

Thanks Hogg, I'll give it a shot Saturday. Should I go light? I mean I can do strict form light reps, but when I go for it I feel that hesitation that leads to my problem. Does that make sense? I'll let you know Sunday how it went.

Not a bad idea there Thick. I'd have to borrow a video cam though, maybe next week I'll give that a try.

Thanks again guys.
