I've never deadlifted, well never lifted for that matter, barefoot before... I wanted to give it a try yesterday. Honestly, it felt great! But, about 2 hours later the tops of my feet started to hurt. Fast forward to the next morning, and I am in pretty considerable pain... Anyone experience this? Is it because my foot muscles/ligaments etc. are not strong enough due to wearing shoes always? Fuck, it hurts!

I've always deadlifted barefoot/socks. Never really encountered that issue. I feel like barefoot allows me to push through the floor better.

I used to wear vibram five fingers a lot and am usually barefoot at home, so I assume maybe you just worked your foot muscles if you spend a lot of time in shoes...

Or if you're flat footed or have fallen arches I would think barefoot would be a bad choice..

I have a fallen arch and can't do deads in socks anymore. Pain for me isn't in the top of the foot unless maybe it's radiating? Idk.

It's definitely the top of the foot... I'm gonna give it a rest for a day or two and reevaluate... Surprised how bad feet can hurt!

Foot pain ain't no joke. Arch on my left gives me trouble in the morning till it kinda stretches out or if I wear cheap shoes almost like a cramp in my foot:confused: might need to go get it checked out:oops:

Hmm I'm not sure on that one @Wunderpus .....I always deadlift in socks an have never experienced that kind of pain. Sorry to hear that brotha smh.

@Wunderpus ive experienced the same issue from time to time not barefoot but while in just socks. Normally when I’m in a weight range for 3-5 reps is when it occurs. “Lighter” weight dead’s don’t seem to provoke the pain. Started wearing just a cheap pair of converse sneakers and haven’t experienced any pain since so. That’s my personal experience with what your experiencing.

I have had this on the bottoms of my feet from feeling like I needed to flex my toes super hard when barefoot, but never the top? I would love to have seen a video of those deadlifts. (picturing your toes doing some sort of involuntary hyper extension towards your kneecaps)

Be careful over the next 2-3 days and let those ligaments in your foot rest, they can and will tear easily when you do not have proper foot support.

I always deadlift barefoot. My left foot has 15 pins, screws, and plates in it and it never bothers me. Im guessing its just your muscles, ligaments, and tendons getting used to it. Do you have high arches?
