DHEA and TRT

Main question: Is there any problem with taking DHEA supplement while on TRT?

I had noted that my DHEA level (in a test back in December) was a 134 with a range of 10 - 319. Thinking that it might be better having it at a higher level (I understand it's one of those hormones that also declines as we age 0 like just about everything but cortisol!!), I thought that supplementing it might be a good idea.

A friend then told me I should take the 7-KETO version instead, since I was on TRT.

He knew I was at that time taking a lot of various natural (OTC) supps to try to get my cortisol levels down to try and get the HPA Axis to re-set so that cortisol levels could be normalized.... He said the 7-KETO version would help raise lower my cortisol and provide some mild weight loss assistance.

Anyway, he said that if you have good levels of T that DHEA supplemented will simply convert to estrogen in males (and the opposite reaction for females). He said that if a male has good levels of testosterone already present (whether normal production or supplemented via TRT) that the DHEA will tend to convert into a lot more estrogen than normal.... He said that this same scene was already observed with "kids" in the gyms downing bottles of DHEA and they already had bursting, youthful levels of T so they were just creating all kinds of estrogen problems...

Any feedback on that?

Would that only occur if one was taking pretty massive levels of DHEA? Would a supplemental level of DHEA at 25mg be okay at supplementing DHEA levels alone - without "enhancing" estrogen levels?

Thanks.

Larry

There was a thread a couple weeks ago that discussed this very issue. You might want to do a key word search to find it.

I agree...supplemental DHEA is more likely to convert to estrogen than help to raise your DHEA level. It will most likely raise total estrogen, not necessarily E2. At only 25mg/day it may be worth a shot to see if it will raise your DHEA level without a concurrent increase in total estrogen. At doses higher than that, I can almost guarantee it will significantly raise total estrogen.
