Dietary styles

Interestingly enough i couldn't find single thread on meso pertaining to diet styles. A discussion we were having on another thread is what peaked my interest to see what style of diet do some of you prefer. We got people here that swear by paleo and others that swear by keto and others that follow simple macronutrient based diets. Personally i believe any effective diet is one where macronutrients are the focal point. But there are others like a friend of mine kade vu who follows a keto diet and has maintained an incredible physique and is strong as all hell. You can check him out on youtube, he's the guy that challenged hulk to squat.

So what type of diet do you follow? Provide reasons why and what kind of results have you yielded. Also if you would like to provide evidence and research even better.

I follow macro based diet about 40% protein, 30-40 % carbs and 20-30% fat. I do that because I don't like to eat lot of fat, and really like carbs, the protein I always keep fixed just for convenience so I don't have to rearrange or measure, protein sources I always eat the same, same quantity. Basically my diet style is convenience.

Just eat make sure I get lost of protine through out the day but because of my job I literately have no time for food prep I'm lucky to get to the gym some days.

But honestly I'm growing so fast that I question a strict diet plan I think if you are looking for size just fucking eat till you can't any more. With high calorie foods and bust your ass in the gym. I have stretch marks from growing so much and my fat gain is quite minimal if any.

25% pro 25% fat 50% carb.
Carbs raise performance, enhanced performance means enhanced strength. Enhanced strength means larger muscles. Used to do keto, got me flat and weak. As a natural you need carbs, if on gear they are less necessary. But IMO with a little gear you can most likely get away with doing keto and maintaining muscle. But strength is the main factor for nattys.

I'm lucky @colossus25 I can eat anything but I have to eat like a beast to gain anything.

You should track your calorie intake. Raise 200/wk if you don't see gains. Try GOMAD. Anyone can "eat anything" that doesn't mean you get enough calories to grow. Gaining weight is a science not a guessing game.

Maybe I give you the wrong impression but I run everything thru my fitness pal. just making a general statment. not ment for making you think I'm a dumb ass.

Well idk about that go eat at Denys every day and tell me you don't gain anything I usually get 2 meals when ever I go to a restaurant or at least an extra burger.
I find if you are growing as long as you stuff your face you will alway keep eating more. High calorie foods are essential.

This!!!! I did the "just F-ing eat" diet and say little positive results and an increase in fat.

I once read an article, I wanna say it was Zane, he commented how people will ask him "how can I grow my upper pecs and rear delts"
He'd ask them, "what's your daily calorie intake? Protein intake?"
They'd say they didn't know. His response was "you don't even know how much your taking in yet you want to grow?"
Just eating no doubt left me short of Pro and carb needs while taking in too much fat... I can't back this with any evidence cause I wasn't tracking anything.
Now I been on a macro diet, about 33%P, 47%C, 20%F and I'm seeing growth while seeing lower numbers in the scale. Plus now I can tweak and adjust but the great thing is I have a starting point and can adjust from there.

Everyone needs something different but I guess I wasn't getting enough calories in and I was eating too much protein I eat at least half the protein I used to and I'm seeing huge improvements.

I also switched from whey protein to casine and I only take 2 scoops a day where before It was at least 5. Way more carbs and I try to stick with beef and eggs when I can.

Lol i have a friend just like that. He wishes he could do bodybuilding but he competes in physique. Guy has to eat 6500 calories just to add any kind of size to his frame. Last year for his competition he cut on 360 grams of carbs like nothing. Shredded as all hell though but hard gainer no doubt. Its funny because i can put on serious size at 400 grams of carbs. Its a double edge sword indeed.

Depends on your goals. If you're trying to be a serious competitor then you can't just fit anything in your diet. You'll never see any Olympian today cutting and eating ice cream 12 weeks out from a show. I think a lot of people misconstrue iifym as a eat brownies and pancakes everyday diet just because you can fit them in your macronurient intake. If you make smart concise food choices with iifym then it can be a very effective diet because in reality it is just a macronurient diet which allows you to twist your intake to allow a cheat meal every now and then. In my opinion beginners should learn a typical macro diet until they get the hang of meeting their intake then once they become more "food conscience" they can start implementing cheat days without ruining their diet.

I think the average wanna be bodybuilder misconstrue a lot of things about bodybuilding besides just diet. I'd venture to say the same that go with the "yay milk shakes and fries cause IIFYM" are the same that do 12 reps of curls and stop at 12 cause the workout said 12 even if that 12th rep wasn't a hard rep and they had 15 more in the tank.
The guys that train for a while and see no change and jump from fad diet to fad diet and training routine to training routine or same guy running an oral only cycle and unsure why they aren't seeing the results they imagined.

Well said cash. Its a common problem in the fitness industry especially when you have these "fitness gurus" perpetuating myths and unproven methods as facts. Thats why i hate using the phrase IIFYM when i explain it to people nowadays. I simply explain it to them as a macro-diet which once they have a better understanding of they can add cheat meals without ruining their diets.

Yeah I do the same and say "macro dieting"
Best way I heard cheat meals explained is this:
If your cutting and let's say at 500cal under maintenance your at 2500cal/day, that's 17,500cal a week.
So the weekend comes and fri night they go nuts and kill a 2000cal cheat, and agin on Sunday bringing your weekly total up to 21,500cals.
Maintenance is 21,000 and with your cheats your at 21,500.... so those cheats fucked your whole week up and they wonder why there's no weight loss.
With macros there's no reason you shouldn't be able to fit your "cheat meals" in your daily macro allowance
