When you were first starting out your training, what sort of program did you follow, if any? Did you always train just by what felt right as far as reps/weight/intensity? Have you ever done dinosaur training or anything unconventional i.e. beyond barbells and dumbells? From which forums did you learn about steroid use?

I started training to be better at my sport (shot put). I continued lifting cause I liked it. I still lift cause I want to be strong as I get older.

I don't bodybuild, never found the appeal to it, but I have mad respect to the people that put themselves in those grueling programs of training, diet and PEDs. It takes a special kind of mind to end up shredded on a stage.

My journey was similar to Narta. Kinda fell in to it. Started lifting in high school in my basement.. Really picked up in Military at 18. Graduated high school at 145 lbs

Ate like a horse, 4am PT. Got big and cut fast. By 27 I was 10% BF and 215 natural at 6’. By 30 I was 265 and 8% enhanced.

Grew up boxing, started MMA after I got out. Kept lifting because I liked how I felt in my own skin. Not necessarily for looks. I probably could have could have competed natural at one time. 24-27.

Now I just like feeling powerful. Though I’m no longer part of the 500 club on bench and my press is a modest 15-20 reps of 315. (Keeping tendons and joints solid)

I wish I had learned early to lift for less power, and more for bodybuilding. More sets, higher reps (within reason… 15-20 seems a sweet spot for me for compound and 10-15 for isolated) My body would have suffered less damage.

Better to be Jay Cutler than Ronnie Coleman or Dorian Yates in your later years…

As for forums… I remember the old days of TSC and guys like BigBench, Lurch, CaptainAmerica and others. Was a good forum and solid people much like the core Meso group.

Now a days… I really just stay here or read articles by people I respect in the industry.
