Hey guys I have no idea what my 1 rep max is on my flat bench. Do you think I should try to find out what it is?

What is yours?

My best was 335 but I cant do that anymore.

I dont think it is necessary to know myself.

After all singles dont do much of anything but build your ego.

id def do it, its a good gauge 2 see how far youve come, and a good motivator
last yr my 1 rm was 370, but that was in october, im shooting for 400 this yr, ill max probably in a couple months

Nice to know for motivation i think but not too important for a BBer .. I work out with 90lb dumbells for incline bench that's all i know .. Was using 365 for barbell bench but felt shoulder pain .. very little but not taking chances so i use dumbells now ...

I believe in mixing up your muscles by trying new things, so last workout I just kept bumping up the weight and only doing 2 reps til I could only do one.

I seem to grow more when I don't get stale and feed my body the same routine.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a new high of 330, previously it was 315, from two years ago after a cycle.

My buddy got powder from China and made his own, and it's the best I've ever had. It's amazing how much better it is, in fact. I can't figure out how come it's so good. Neither can he.

He's mixing it 250/ml, but somehow the purity is better or something... don't know, I was used to doing enanthate or sust... This is my fourth cycle and I'm growing like never before. Never thought I'd see the day I'd approach 17 inch arms.

So 1rep max, yeah, I think it has it's uses. I think the body can use some changes so it doesn't get stale.

Unless you are going to compete in a PL meet, it is probably totally unneeded; basically an ego thing. I never try to get a 1RM unless I'm training up for a competition. A 1RM isn't a good gauge to see how far you've progressed unless linear strength is your goal (and still not a great gauge at that).

What is mine now? Not sure, I got a partial pec tear back in Feb before my last meet and haven't trained chest since then. Before that, somewhere areound 420. Could I do it now? nope.

I don't recommend it. I haven't "maxed out" on anything in over 10 years. It's worthless and carries undue danger unless you are a power lifter. If you need goals, then keep up with a 10 rep max or 5 rep max while maintaining form.

For the record I think that bench press is a great exercise for many things. However, so many guys wrap their egos up into it so much that I usually tell people to give it up for at leat a year. The result is often a better chest or pushing workout because form improves. Liberate thyself from the Bench Press. Just imagine what you can do with that extra hour.

160kg was my best, but I have aways been disappointed with it.My big bro and a long time training partner were around the 210kg mark.but I do think guys like that are in the 1 percent club.
I do agree with the others about the ego thing and in particular RamsteinII,I will be keeping my reps to a least five.
I had a mini pec tear about a 6 weeks ago, then re pulled it trying to get up again too fast but it is coming right now and I'm able to get ten reps at 100kg.I will be happy with 140kg for six reps

Great advice! It fell on deaf ears, but it's still great advice.

What is the fascination with the bench? Everyone always asks me how much I bench. Who cares? Why not ask me something cool, like how much I deadlift. I don't know the answer to either, but I'd just like to have someone ask me that question. :p

There is almost no physiological reason to switch up routines, especially as often as people such as Poliquin recommend.

I estimate my best was around 360. I put up 135 last night. Im HYOOOOGE!

I never do less than 8 reps and don't do bench press at all. I love the hammer incline and if somebody asks how much I bench I lie anyway....LOL

LOL yeah but to be perfectly honest the best I ever did for a single was 305 at 180lb bodyweight. That was many years ago and because of recurrent shoulder problems I stopped doing flat bench. I probably would have gotten 306 or 307 by now though!!
