Doxycycline for acne, anyone here used it?

Accutane is too much money from all the sources I have seen (don't PM me or e-mail me about any source please), and from what I hear that is how it is everywhere to get it without a perscription. So I went and found a cheaper option, Doxycycline.

I have heard good things about the anti-biotic Doxycycline. It is effective against cycstic acne and whiteheads in general. I am planning on using that with some Oxy pads my next cycle to prevent acne. Anyone here used it?

-Thanks

I didnt think you were supposed to use antiboitics durring your cycle... i thought that was a big no no...... not sure if these count or not.... If you can use them then ill start back up on tetracycline or acromiacine (sp?) as I have a lot of that laying around. bumping for more info

I would stay away from tetracycline ... doxy is a much better choice.

I use bactrim while on ... along with a probiotic such as acidophilis. This enables your body to keep the right supply of "good" or "friendly" bacteria available. Anti-B's ward off all bacteria ... so during prolonged use of a anti-B such bactrim or doxycycline one should supplement a probiotic.

It's perfectly fine to use them while on ... I've never had a problem and it's never hindered any gains. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive sun exposure.

People are often permanently prescribed Bactrim for certain kidney defects ... in other words it's not harmful to be on it for a prolonged amount of time.

years ago, dermatologist had had me on tetracycline as well as minocycline, after things like metrogel (topical antibiotics) failed.

works "OK", certainly wasn't any magic bullet, that's for sure. In fact, on a scale of 1-10, i'd give them about a "4.5". oral anti-biotics are kinda out of favor for acne, anyways. The problem is that the antibiotics are spread throughout your whole body, when the problem is really on the surface of your skin. Kind of like using a shotgun to kill a fly. Plus, it doesn't work all that well. If you use the anti-biotics, though, MAKE SURE you eat a little bit with them. If you don't, you can get sick and puke. Has happened to me more than once. And it sucks when you're somewhere like on the subway.

There's a gel out there called "Differin"--it's related to retin-A, but easier on your skin as well as more effective. you can buy it from places like mexmeds for about $25-30 a tube, and a tube lasts upwards of 2 months. It takes about 2 weeks to really kick in...in the meanwhile, acne can actually get a bit worse.

It says to use the stuff 1x day, i use it morning and night.

If you got "it" real bad, you can try a 10% solution of salicylic acid, which will make your skin peel like a sunburn. Do this first, and then start using the Differin gel. www.glycolicsolutions.com has great prices, and have a 2-4 day t/a. A $30 bottle of their 10% salicylic acid will last for months, as you only use it every few weeks.

I been suffering from zits since I was 14, and I'm now old enough to be a grandfather, and have tried just about everything in the book. For me, I use a bit of everything.

1) daily 2% salicyclic acid wash (like neutrogena)
2) 2x daily differin gel
3) 10% salicyclic acid peel every 3-4 weeks
4) occasional use of benzoyl peroxide 10% if the above doesn't take care of it all.

Oh, btw, the the differin and the salicylic acid will keep your face looking younger. might not be important to you now, but in 10 years, it will.

And use a sunscreen on your face, as your skin will be ++++++sensitive to UV rays when you use the above.

Metro-gel is more effective for treating rosacea then acne.

Acne is best treated when it's treated on the outside [cream] and on the inside [pills]. A routine like cvguy suggested would be an effective treatment. I still recommend taking bactrim with it though. You can take it on an empty stomach or with food ... it doesn't matter. It's the shit ... I get no sides what so ever from it. THat's why I switched to it ... with as much as I eat I couldn't stand taking anti-biotics on an empty stomach. Taking pills in the am on an empty stomach is very nausiating to me ... Kuh-Barf.

Tazorac cream is also very effective ... but very strong. If you have large pores with black heads it will clean them up and tighten your skin up. After several months of use it will build up collogen in your skin. Use that every 5-6 days for a month or so and gradually move to 2 times a week ... or three if it doesn't iritate you too much.

I used doxy on a tren cycle, which usually casuses my back and shoulders problems. The doxy really helped considering its safe and cheap. Prevented any cycstic type but still got some breakouts. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 5.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have tried the differin cream, didn't work well for me, maybe it was because I used in conjuction with Duac cream...oh well. I will look into all of the stuff posted here.

Cracka, interesting post. I've never tried Tazorac. Do you just get it from your doc, or is it cheaper to buy it online from somewhere? If you buy it online, can you let us know where?

I'm looking into torzac right now, you can get it from your doc. I haven't found any online places, but I'll post back if I do. I'm going to see my dermatoligist about it.

Shes good at her job, but she can only help me so much as I can't just go up to her and say "I need some accutane. Not for my acne now, but for how it will be in a few months." Yeah right.....

Yeah you need a script but can get it online I'm sure as posted by Ejacobs ... the price he mentioned is about right. If you've been to the dermatologist before and they're familiar with you etc etc then you can ask for some samples. This way you can see if it's for you without wasting money. Especially if you're already going in for a visit ...

Your face can get red and irritated and peel if you don't space out applications enough. Everyone is different but start out like I suggested. Apply a generous/thin layer to your face, neck, or back at night after you take a shower or wash your face.

You still need a prescription at all the seemingly legit places I have seen. I don't trust just any site that comes up on a search engine, that can get you in to trouble. If they are offering prescription drugs to US citizens, then you need a prescription.......if they say otherwise then they are scamming. Just a heads up to everyone...

200mg's Doxycycline ED....... Helping with coming off a long Test. Cycle.....

Working just fine with Primo and Anavar bridge.

Just because a place doesn't require a prescription that doesn't mean that the place isn't legit. I've bought from several pharmacies online that didn't require a script ... If you use a credit card to buy the stuff and you don't recieve the product or a legit product than your card company will credit you and charge the company. The nice thing about using a CC is that they act as a lawyer for you. The only thing you need to do is read info. at the website to see what their policies are ... you are responsible for that information.

I use the doxycycline and Retin-A which is applied to the skin. Works great but can really dry you out depending on your skin type. Word of advice though, take the doxycycline with lots of water and eat. Will tear up your esophagus and stomach if you are not careful. Hope this helps.

Currently using doxy and retin-a micro now for about 4 wks and it has helped alot. I still have some though but I'll work through it.
