I go to bed between 2-4am (work eves) wake up between 10-12. I wake up and go straight to the gym. No food. Post workout shake as soon as I get home from gym. Been doing a 3 on 1 off split. Eating clean every 2 hours after shake. Seeing good results but wondering if I should eat and wait 1/2hr or so then go to the gym. I'm 6'4", 230 15%BF. Thanks!

depends reallt on wh at you are trying to accomplish, if you wanna drop some quick calories dont eat but trying ti to bulk up eat before and after

I dont eat before morning cardio but do before any weight training, want to fuel the fire for those muscles

Me too. I'll have breakfast, come on here for a while then 2hrs after breakfast drink a shake then get ready and go to the gym...........11

I'm looking to gain mass while either keeping my BF relatively the same or lowering. This morning I tried 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 hardboiled eggwhite 1/2hr before workout. Worked good. Will keep experimenting with it.

You must eat before training. Your intensity will suffer if you do not and this will result in less gains. Further, and perhaps more importantly, you need the food source to reduce catabolism during your workout. Working out on an empty stomach will deplete glycogen fast. This may translate into loss of mass, or may limit gains in the long term.

It is very important to have some food in you before training...Even if its something small, you need some fuel! TRy some oatmeal and some egg whites or something...

I am always curious as to how people can workout first thing in the morning...WHen i wake up I am always dehydrated(I will drink 1/2g of water) in the morning with my breakfast...THere is no way I could train first thing in the A.M.. ANyone else feel this way?

I used to train every morning on a empty stomach.

I tried that when I took d-bol for the first time 3 weeks ago. Big mistake. I got nausea and light headed. Now I always have a bowl of oatmeal an hour before workout.

I would suggest a protein drink before training. Research has shown a tremendous benefit from having amino acids floating around as you get a pump. It redirects a great deal more amino acids to working muscles than only taking your protein drink afterwards. This is the whole concept behind Primer and Driver.

If you are trying to drop bodyfat just take the protein. If you are trying to gain, I would suggest some liquid carbs with the protein.

Just read some great info stating the same as you. Gonna try shakes before workouts (and after) and see how it goes. Thanks for all your input guys!

Eating is very important before your workout, I usually go with at least 20g protein and 25-50g complex carbs. I weight 190, so you may need more. I usually eat about 45 min to an hour before, if I eat anything and go workout immediatly i get a little queezy. Plus I have heard that eating right before your workout redirects energy to digestion that would otherwise be available for your lifts. Maybe someone else knows more about this, could just be a myth.

When I train in the morning before work I usually don't eat until after I train. I simply don't have time to eat and digest and then train. It doesn't bother me a bit. Muscles burn glycogen, CP, or ATP which I have stored in the muscle. I've never had problem with it. Sometimes I'll drink a glass of milk before lifting if I wake up hungry, which I usually don't.

Hey Ramstein, a glass of milk is better than nothing, and it will pay off over the long haul.
I eat a protein/fat meal 1 1/2 hours before lifting. On my way to the gym, about 10 minutes, I start sipping a diluted protein/carb shake, and continue sipping shake throughout workout. Finish diluted shake 5 - 10 minutes before completion of workout. When I'm done and stretched out, I'll have my post-workout shake. Makes a HUGE difference, especially in trainers that are natural.
