Eating before and after a workout

I was wondering what do you all suggest to eat BEFORE and AFTER a workout?

Is it necessary to eat before? I'm trying to lose fat and build lean muscle.

Also, how soon before and after should one eat?

Thanks in advance!

Pre and post workout nutrition is very important. You need a preworkout shake/meal to fuel your training session otherwise you will go catabolic and not have the energy to perform at your optimal best. A meal preworkout, 1.5-2 hrs should be fine, if having whey and something else then 45-60 min before a workout. Post workout nutrition is just as important to restore muscle glycogen and to inhibit catabolism post workout. Post workout you should have whey with short sugars as soon as possible, the short sugars will spike insulin allowing the muscles to take up amino acids. An hour to 1.5 hours later I would then have a meal

Before a workout you need a meal high in protein and slow-digesting carbs and post workout you need 20-30grams of protein and simple carbs (like gatorade, powerade and so on). Keep in mind that breakfast along with pre and post-workout meals are the most important. What you eat before bed is also very important and slow-digesting protein like casein, yoghurt, cottage or milk is highly suggested!

The pre-workout meal should be about 2 to 2 1/2 hours before the workout and post-workout meal as soon as you can after training. I have my protein shake at the gym and eat a meal as soon as i go home.

Losing fat and building muscle at the same time is a very hard thing to do, especially for women, unless you're cycling, something i don't encourage women to do.

Too muscular women are not really well liked by most men so stick to your diet plan, shed that extra fat, harden up a little bit and you're good. Most of us prefer women with curved, toned bodies rather than big muscles. :)

I hope i was of help!

Well like everything else we are all unique snowflakes  I have found that working out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach works best for me with my wiggles and water retention. But only when working out right out of bed. Most times I do cardio first then have a light snack and hit the wts- then eat like an animal (just kidding) but a good full breakfast as soon as my stomach will allow me to eat.

Yeah, I'm not a morning-eater and I get the urge to workout first thing in the morning as well. thanks!

So I'm gathering before and after lifting weights it's crucial to eat/store up energy but before cardio it's okay to just do it first thing in the a.m. and then eat/drink something after so I don't crash.
