A woman indicted on federal steroids charges is a Caddo Parish elementary school teacher.

Julie Landry was put on paid administrative leave Thursday after informing a supervisor that she had been arrested.

Under district policy, she will be on paid administrative leave until the criminal case against her is resolved, said Caddo Schools spokesperson Mary Wood.

Landry has worked in education for many years. She's worked in Caddo Parish previously. She returned this year to work at Summerfield Elementary as a fourth-grade teacher, Wood said.

Her husband, Brant Landry, and Bossier Parish School Board member Michael Mosura were also charged in the case. Both are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9.

Julie Landry has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy related to the distribution of anabolic steroids and the alleged removal steroids from a home before it was searched by law enforcement.

Original story:

A Bossier Parish School Board member and two others have been indicted on federal charges related to the unlawful distribution of anabolic steroids.

Michael Mosura, the District 5 representative on the Bossier school board, was charged with one count of conspiracy related to the distribution of anabolic steroids from Jan. 1, 2016, through May 22, 2018.

Two others, Brant R. Landry and Julie Landry, were also indicted on conspiracy and additional charges.

Brant Landry faces charges of possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, the manufacturing of anabolic steroids and the possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense, according to the indictment.

Julie Landry was charged with misprision of a felony after she allegedly removed steroids from a home in anticipation that it would be searched by law enforcement, according to the indictment. Misprision is a legal term meaning the deliberate concealment of a crime.

The Landrys, who are married, were owners of Bars and Scars Gym at 3325 Industrial Drive in Bossier City, according to their Facebook pages. The business closed earlier this year, according to its business Facebook page.

If convicted, the three would have to forfeit property gained from their alleged illicit activity. Some of that property includes a list of firearms that belong to Landry, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors filed a motion Wednesday to unseal the indictment. The grand jury indicted the trio Sept. 27.

All three appeared Wednesday in federal court. Julie Landry pleaded not guilty Wednesday. Arraignments for Mosura and Brant Landry are set for Oct. 9.

Brant Landry will be temporarily detained pending a detention hearing. Mosura and Julie Landry are both free on $25,000 unsecured bond, according to federal court records.

Mosura does not have an attorney listed in federal court records as of Thursday afternoon. Nichole Buckle, an attorney representing Brant Landry, did not return calls.

Mosura has served with a number of local organizations in the past, including the United Way of Northwest Louisiana's board of directors, Louisiana State University's Alumni board of directors, First Priority's board of directors and the BHP Billiton YMCA.

Mosura is affiliated with several fitness-related businesses, according to filings with the Louisiana Secretary of State Office, including Broadmoor Fitness LLC and LA2Missouri LLC. Both businesses are active but are not in good standing because the companies failed to file annual reports, according to secretary of state records.

Court records in Bossier Parish tie Broadmoor Fitness LLC to an Anytime Fitness location at 739 Shreveport-Barksdale Highway.

Mosura moved to Shreveport in 1995 to finish college and focus on a career the golf business, according to a biography on the LSU-Shreveport website.

Mosura could not be reached for comment. He is seeking re-election to the board in the Nov. 6 election. He is running unopposed. He was elected to the school board in 2002.

Sonja Bailes, spokesperson for Bossier Schools, said the did not have enough information to comment at this time.
