Ephedrine Drug Test

I am getting ready to take a Drug Test some time tomorrow (wednesday). I am currently on DNP which I am not worried about. However I did take one 25mg SAN Ephedrine 25 tablet at about noon today. I also took one at 8:00 AM Monday and another at 6:00PM Monday.

Now SAN's Ephedrine is not pure but comes from Ephedra Extract. However I am reading all over the net that even enhalers and psuedoephedrine cause false positives.

Am I allowed to declare I am taking this "diet" product because though its banned its not a narcotic is it? Also might it be smarter to fake sickness for a day and take the test Thursday giving me a full 48 hours of clean?

I wasn't planning of faking the urine.

I meant faking that i was too ill to go to the test center tomorrow. Most things I have seen say don't worry about it too much but list some OTC things that could cause a false positive.

Also since Ephedrine HCL is apparently widely available at convenience stores, why should I be worried? Does it just mean I'd have to fight it out?

Apparently they ask nothing of you up front and if you test positive for something they call and ask about prescriptions and other stuff before reporting you to the company.

I have taken drug tests while using 75-100mg of ephedrine per day for extended periods of time and not a single test came back with a false positive.

Ditto. Besides, hypothetically, if it comes back positive just say you're using ephedrine. It's not illegal.

ephedrine is a main ingredient in some meth recipes...it can show up as meth on a 5 panel street drug test....maybe not an ncaa steroid test...

Do you have any proof or evidence that ephedrine can cause a false positive?

LIST OF SUBSTANCES THAT CAN CAUSE FALSE POSITIVES ON A DRUG TEST. If taken regularly these items could affect the outcome of a drug test. There is no guarantee that they will.

AMPHETAMINES

Over-the-counter cold and allergy remedies that contain ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, propylephedrine, phenylephrine or desoxyephedrine: Nyquil, Contact, Sudafed, Allerest 12 Hour, A.R.M., Triaminic 12, Ornade, Tavist-D, Dimetapp, Sinex, Neosynephrine, Actifed, Bayer Select Maximum Strength Sinus Pain Relief Caplets, Contact Non-Drowsy Formula Sinus Caplets, Dristan Cold Caplets, Maximum Strength Sine-Aid Tablets, Maximum Strength Sudafed Sinus Caplets, Maximum Strength Tylenol Sinus Gelcaps, No Drowsiness Sinarest Tabs, Sinus Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets, Cheracol Sinus, Drixoral Cold and Flu, Efidac/24, Phenegan-D, Robitussin Cold and Flu, Vicks Nyquil.

A urine drug test is the most popular and economical form of drug testing available today. This news report will delve into the heart of urine drug test screens. To start, note that there are three common types of a urine drug test:

* EMIT Drug Test via Urine
* Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer Drug Test via Urine
* Radio ImmunoAssay Drug Test via Urine

Of paramount note is a urine drug test also has a tendency to confuse similar chemical compounds. Products that contain hemp, such as nutritional supplements or food items, could potentially cause a false positive drug test for marijuana.

High doses of Ibuprofen, which is contained in Motrin, Advil and Nuprin, can test positive for marijuana drug use. Products containing Ephedra, such as ma-huang extract, has a chemical structure close to amphetamines, and can give false positive urine drug test result without the lab technician even knowing. Poppy seeds can indeed have a urine drug test positive for morphine. Cold medicines like Triaminic and Nyquil can test positive for morphine or methamphetamine. Supposedly, Valium can test positive for PCP, a hallucinogenic drug also known as "Angel Dust". Dextromethorpan can result in a false positive drug test for opiates in a urine sample. Valerian root, Kava Kava and St. Johns Wort are popular herbal supplements for relaxation that can affect a urine drug test.

Other over the counter medicines including Alka-Seltzer Plus, Contac, Sinutab and Bronkaid are prone to negatively effect a urine drug test, and since their use is extremely wide-spread, the problem of a false positive drug test is clear.

False positive for methamphetamine on drug tests of people using ephedra

Can taking ephedra (also called ma huang) cause a "false positive" for methamphetamine on a drug test?

A variety of different tests are used for drug testing. However, many of them can give a false positive result, in the sense that ephedra use will show up as drug use. (In particular, ephedra use may generate a positive finding for methamphetamine.)

One active component in ephedra is ephedrinewhich has pharmaceutical properties and is in the same class of compounds as many other drugs and natural stimulants. As such, it will be metabolized similarly to these other substances.

Much drug testing checks for the presence of drug metabolites as a measure or indicator of ingested drug. By the time one tests blood or urine for the drug, the body has metabolized most of it, so many tests are directed towards testing for metabolites.

There may also be other components in ephedra with metabolites or parent structures that are similar to drugs taken for pleasure or sports and would therefore test positive. Like other botanical products, ephedra contains scores, perhaps even hundreds of different chemical compounds.

Drug tests are usually designed for ease of use and are broad-based, so that a single test would detect many different drugs. Thus, it can be difficult to differentiate between an actual drug/pharmaceutical or a natural product/supplement like ephedra.

Such differentiation can usually be done by further, intensive testing that is targeted for a particular unique metabolite or residual drug itself.

One link is to a company selling "detox" products, so the validity of their claims is suspect right off the bat. Ive seen "Detox" products claim they can clean everything out of you, including pot, cocaine, and so on. Its all a bunch of garbage and none of them can substantiate any of their claims.

The other link offers commentary but no evidence to support the claim of false positives.

Until I see some real evidence, I am going to say that the idea of ephedrine giving false positives is as much garbage as the detox products sold to prevent any positives.

pseudo-ephedrine is the ingredient, hence the bunches of pseudofed they buy/use to make it.

* Ephedra

The key ingredient of all meth is ephedrine, or pseudoephedrine, as the synthetic form is called. Ephedrine is found in over-the-counter diet pills such as mini-thins, cold medicine or allergy tablets. The pills are cooked, then blended with a variety of ingredients that are cheap and readily available.

What is ephedra?

Ephedra is the plant from which ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are made. The amphetamine medications for ADHD and narcolepsy (Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine and Cylert) are made from this plant.

Ephedra (sometimes referred to as ephedrine) is a natural chemical found in a Chinese herb called MaHuang (or MA-Huang). It is grown on sandy seashores and in temperate climates of both hemispheres. Ephedra may be sold as an herb, but it acts like an adrenaline-like drug. It is widely advertised, and is sold over-the-counter in drugstores, health food stores, sport shops, truck stops, and by mail order, in pill or capsule form. Ephedrine pills are inexpensive, so are frequently used for weight control, extra energy or intoxication.

Other names include: diet pep, Escalation, Mega trim, Diet Max , Herb Trim or pep pill. Many herbal teas contain ephedra. The most common is MaHuang or Trim Time Thermogenic Tea. The FDA does not approve these products, because they are sold as food supplements. For the federal authority to restrict a product, it's hazards must be demonstrated. Currently the FDA is closely monitoring the adverse effects and claims made for these products. (Goldfrank, Flomenbaum, Levin, Weisman, Hawland, &Hoffman 1998). According to Nadir, A., Agrawal,S., and King, P. (1996) these products are linked to numerous adverse reactions and deaths.

Common over the counter cold, asthma, and allergy remedies and diet pills such as Diatec, Dexatrim, Cotylenol, Triaminic, Primatene, Bronkotabs, and Nyquil can show up as positive for amphetamines.
#

Vicks Formula-44, Demerol, Mydol, Primatene-M and common prescription antidepressants such as Elavil and Tofanil can show up as positive for opiates such as opium and heroin.

Ephedra, also known as Ephedra Alkaloids or 'MaHuang Extract' has a chemical structure which is closely related to amphetamine, and can reportedly give a false positive for amphetamines. Often sold as an 'energy pill' it is an effective decongestant in low doses.

Ok, Ive seen all these links and articles, yet none of them address what Im asking. REPORTEDLY doesnt mean jack. REPORTEDLY, aliens have landed on earth. REPORTEDLY, Anna Nicole has a triple digit IQ.

I want to see some actual numbers. Some real evidence that ephedrine or ephedra can give a false positive. Just because they are very similar in structure doesnt mean much of anything. There are a lot of things similar in atomic structure, yet are absolutely nothing alike. Again, until I see some real evidence, I think the whole idea is bunk.

thats why they are called false positives...they cant prove what it actually was....its impossible to have statistics that prove it was ephedra not meth or meth not ephedra...its just known by almost everyone that ephedra can and will show up as meth.....i think its time to just admit your wrong....there is allot more proof on my side than yours...
