Hi guys, when I started an Anavar cycle I was disappointed to find there wasn't a lot of information/discussion from female perspective. So I thought I would share my input.
About me: I am 25 year old female. I am 115 pounds, 20% bodyfat, I am a (novice) gymnast and personal trainer. I should also mention, I am on oral birthday control. If you care, My current workout schedule is as follows:
Sunday - Complete Rest Day
Monday - Upper Press/Pull, Ring strength, Scap strength and thoracic mobility
Tuesday - Multimodal aerobic, shoulder accessory, core
Wednesday - Active recovery
Thursday - Thoracic mobility, inverted strength and holds, isometric holds, knee flexion and posterior chain
Friday - EMOM Gymnastics/aerobic, ring strength, rotary stability, TGU and overhead
Saturday - Cluster lower body maximal strength, posterior chain activation, core
Anyway I am not a bodybuilder so did not have a goal to become super muscular. However, I felt that for how hard I work, I should be seeing a little extra tightness. I have tried clen in the past but did not like the "shakiness" that accompanied it. I decided to give anavar a try.
I started anavar at 10mg per day, split up 5mg in the morning and 5mg at night.
My experience is as follows:
First day I felt fantastic. Felt "clear" headed, felt ready to attack the day. I do believe this was a direct affect of the Var. Later that evening I felt really hot, I sweated in my sleep (which I never do, at least not noticeably). Which I was find with.
Second day, immediately following my morning dose, I felt intense headache. I thought perhaps I was not drinking enough water, so I upped my water intake. However my headache lasted the entire day. I also felt hot again, but did not sweat at night. I thought I just had to "adjust" to the hormones.
Third day I am still feeling "good"... productive and "clear" headed. I notice I feel tougher in my workouts. However, I woke up with an even worse headache and it lasted through the day.
Fourth day I woke up with a headache and I am starting to get concerned. Allergy perhaps? I decided if my headache didn't get better by tomorrow, I would stop. But workout felt great and I still felt full of energy - so far that is my favorite aspect of the Var.
Fifth day I did not wake up with a headache. Great! Maybe I am finally adjusting. I took my morning dose and felt an immediate headache... felt concern again. Drank extra water (again) and went about my day. A few hours later, headache is gone and I am feeling great. I decide maybe I just needed to adjust to the hormones and that's why I was getting headaches.
Day six and seven, workouts are feeling fantastic. I am already seeing results. My muscles feel "hard," my stomach is already tightening up, I feel a strong "pump" after each workout which I hadn't felt before. I feel stronger and am lifting more. Great! Anavar is fantastic!
At this point, I am noticing some side effects: Skin is more oily and hard to control, people ask "did you just workout? You look like you just ran a marathon." I think part of it is because my body temperature is running hotter than normal, so I feel hot and sweaty a lot. Hair is oily, I have to wash it every day wheras before the var I washed it every other day. No acne at this point, actually skin seems clearer strangely. Also my BO is terrible! I feel so gross and can smell myself during my workouts....GROSS. but these sides were manageable for me, for 6 weeks, if it meant I get the awesome results for tightening that I have been experiencing.
**TURNING POINT***
Day 8 - I have been singing every morning to check my voice (any amount of voice change for me was not worth it, so I kept an eye on it.) I am not a good singer or anything, but I felt it was a good way to keep an eye on subtle voice changes. My highest note I could sign is an above octave E. On the 8th day, I woke up and my throat was sore. I got into my car and tried to sing on my way to work... throat felt very full and wet. Like it was full of phlegm. I became concerned. I thought that perhaps I just wasn’t warmed up yet, so I tried not to think of it too much and went to work.
I noticed that while I was laughing, my laughter sounded different. My laugh sounded a little deeper (only noticeable to me) and my voice in my laugh would crack and I would have to cough and clear my throat. Later in the day I checked my voice again and my voice cracked while I sang although after 20 minutes of warming up, I was able to hit the notes I am usualy able to hit.
This incident scared me so I skipped my evening Var dose.
Day 9 – Voice felt better and I thought perhaps I was overreacting and being paranoid so I tried the Var again. Felt fine and took both doses, however I cut the dose in half. Now I am taking 2.5mg in the morning and at night.
Day 10 – woke up with a sore throat and throat felt wet and phlegmy just as it did before. I tried to sing and was horrified. I could not hit above octave E, in fact I could barely hit C. Voice was cracking horribly, I had to continually cough and clear my throat. When I laughed, my voice cracked. My speaking voice sounded normal, though, so I didn’t know if I was overreacting or not… I skipped the morning dose and voice started to return to normal so I thought perhaps I am not being fair and only checking my voice in the morning before I am “warmed up”… so I took the evening dose.
Day 11 – NO I AM NOT IMAGINING IT. It is now ever so slightly affected my speaking voice, and definitely my singing voice. I feel like such an idiot for not heeding to the early warning signs. No one else notices my voice change in my speaking voice, but my friend said he noticed it in my laughing voice and it’s for sure noticeable in my singing voice. This was not worth it to me so I stopped the Var immediately.
Over the next few days, my voice did not return to normal. I still could not sing, throat felt wet and hoarse, it almost seemed to get worse for a couple days. Voice cracked and was more scratchy. No I am not sick, I do not feel sick at all and I checked my temp several times – definitely not sick. It’s the Var. I know it is.
I am starting to worry that I ruined my voice, which was not worth it for me personally even though it is such a small difference.
However, rest assured, 8 days post Var…my voice is back. Back exactly the same as it was before. But I was really scared there for a moment that I had permanently changed my voice!
Anyway, moral of the story is:
Anavar is a steroid, it is. Don’t kid yourself that it’s not. It will probably work for you, it’s amazing and gives great results – I loved it for results. However, don’t kid yourself – steroids have masculining effects!!! It is my personal belief that it WILL give you some sort of masculining traits – everyone is different, but it’s just not realistic to only hope for the good effects and none of the bad.
I think the bad side effects will most likely be minimal, but I believe it will happen. For me, ANY amount of voice change was not worth it. If bodybuilding was “my life,” then yes the very minimal voice change probably would have been something I could get used to (after all, it hadn’t affected my speaking voice very much, at least not up to the point that I used it).
But bodybuilding was not my life. I just wanted a little extra help to tighten up. So for me, the voice change was not worth it. Maybe if I started the dose even smaller, I wouldn’t have had the side effects…or maybe I wouldn’t have had any effects….or maybe I would have only had the side effects without the desired effects. It’s hard to say. Maybe if I get brave in a few months, I will try it again at a smaller dose.
But if you are like me where the masculining effects are not worth it, keep a close eye on it. You will probably start to see it at about the 10 day point… be your own judge, and know what is worth it to you BEFORE you start the var…
Anyway, that’s my story. Good luck to lady Var users!
