firearm for first time owner

You mean if they are making too much noise? I like it..
No. My point is some village idiot goes and buys a freaking 308 or a 223 or a 45 as his apartment defense gun. Ends up killing a neighbor and ends up in a world of legal hell. Because let’s face it. I don’t know of anyone with a clean enough record that a lawyer could not find something to throw at a citizen protecting his home/property. Add the racism this country is experiencing and it’s a total shit show for no good reason. I was simply stating though as in my situation although we have several 40 cal pistols and several different rifles of various calibers my go to for things that go bump in the night is a tactical 870 ,extra full choke and some 7 shot. My house is full of folks I’m in charge of protecting so I don’t want any accidents caused by an errant round.

I was just joking BTW : )

Agree with the above, though.

I just got my license, in my state, but may be moving to a state I could eventually have concealed carry.

I want something I could potentially carry, and most importantly keep at home for self defense. Something practical as im not a gun guy and don't plan to spend alot of time becoming an excellent shooter and hopefully never have to use it.

Price is a main consideration because I am frugal.

Any suggestions?

Spend a lot of time becoming an excellent shooter.

Just do it.

Don't half ass something this important.

Go to a local range with rental guns and try several before making any decisions.

You will find that larger guns are easier to shoot, and smaller guns are more difficult to shoot. It is simple physics. Then you have the issue of carry. You can carry a much larger pistol than you think, but invest some money in a very good holster and a belt made specifically for carrying a firearm. These two items will make things much more comfortable and secure.

Train, train, train.

Did I mention you should spend a lot of time training?

I like that gun a lot, but heavy for carry with the double stack mag. If I'm not mistaken I think you can get a single or double stack?

the 2.0 is single stack 8 round with 1 in chamber. Not as wide as a Glock but definitely easy to carry. If you’re gonna EDC .45 all day with the right gun. That one has a ton of mods, I have an apex 2.4lb trigger pull on mine. If you want true concealed/hidden any .380 is going to be smaller and thinner profile. I love the ruger LCP too.

S&W Airweight in 38+P is a slick little pocket pistol. Hammerless for no snagging on things. Double action. Get in a bind just point and keep pulling until it goes click instead of bang.

If I pocket carry I love my Ruger LCP 2 380. I know people think it's a chick gun but It's pretty accurate at 21' and it's the perfect pocket carry.

My everyday carry is a Sig P365 SAS 9mm. Snag free draw and bullseye sight for quick target aquisition.

Home defense in the night stand...Taurus Raging Judge revolver. Fires 410ga, 45 Long Colt, & 454 Casull. It's Loaded with 3" 410ga 00 buckshot for home defense and 454 Casull when I'm camping.
Your carry weapon and you home defense are 2 competely different situations and require different weapons.
I still say a 12 gauge is the best home defense gun though.

Hornady Critical Defense is the best defense ammo there is in my opinion. At any caliber.

Choosing a weapon is no time to be frugal and I agree with others that said range time is important. Go to your local indoor range and rent some different handguns. It has to feel good when you hold it. If it doesn't feel good in your hand then it isn't the right gun for you no matter how good a weapon it is. When it comes to choosing the tool that may save your life, don't cheap out.

Legal trouble is always a risk when you shoot someone, even if it's justified.

One has to also look at the tonnage of aas raws on hand, you shoot someone in your house and they're gonna search your home if they get a warrant, they find your brew, syringes, needles and you're fucked...possession of a gun while committing a felony.

I think guns are great, but the legal system is fucked and I live in a state where you don't have to have a permit to conceal carry.

A very wise man told me once "don't go somewhere with a gun that you normally wouldn't without a gun". Too many fucktards out there that think they're tough because they carry a gun, if you don't know how to kick someones ass with your barehands you're better off staying home.....that's part of the problem with our cops today that only know how to squeeze a trigger instead of hand to hand combat. Learn to kill someone with your barehands and you'll have a lot less legal trouble.

Pulling a pistol on someone is an extremely scary experience. I've pulled on someone twice in my life and been pulled on once a long time ago. Honestly, it's more frightening pulling on someone else. Once was some Billy badass PI parked in front of my home watching a house up the street, when I asked him who he was and what he wanted he gave me a hard time and walked up on me in my yard. He got the gun in the face. Second time was with a crackhead who was walking towards me getting ready to fight and I wasn't having that dirty, drug addict, AIDS looking fucker trying to touch me, so he got the gun in the face.

Now, both times neutralized the problem, but these people never brandished a weapon. And you have about 2 seconds to decode whether you will pull the trigger or not. When some idiot either calls your bluff or pulls one back on you, shit is gonna get real, real damn fast!! It's a very scary thing even pulling on someone and not a pleasant thing at all

Dude I grew up around more guns and ammo from birth than you'll ever be around. My dad was a competitive shooter, taxidermist, trapper, big game and trophy hunter and holds many state and national records. Heading out for bear archery season next week in Arkansas .

Here's the point my dad never pulled a gun on anyone in his life, but he did beat the living shit out of people with his fist and went to jail for it. You think Mike Tyson couldn't kill you with his bare hands? At 6'2" 245lbs I can more than take most guys, smash their skull in and twist their fucking head off if needed, but I don't need to because I get along with everyone, from the lowest rank trash thugs to the cleanest church going folks, they all love me....and you should to OS.

Growing up in a house full of guns, you know what my dad had for self defense, a ballbat. He never even thought about shooting anyone and I don't think he'd have to. So this is where I get this from, use your head, think, don't just squeeze a trigger and think everything is gonna be great. No guy on AAS should be scared of some hand to hand combat, if you are than you need to change up your sauce.

OldSchool do you really think you need to carry a gun so someone won't rape your ass, are you that scared of being anally violated?

Go back to the gold rush days, those carrying guns had short life spans, those without guns, someone stole all their shit, but they lived to tell the story.

So you choose, you pull a gun, you shot, you injure or kill, the perp is taken to the hospital a crew works on him all night long spending $$$$$ to save him, lots of paper work, family is enraged, you gotta watch your back at all times because they want to kill you, lawyer bills racking up at $350/hr...now your bankrupt.....see where this shit is going.

You could have just handed over your wallet.... a wallet with no cash and an easily cancelled credit card and you're done. See how easy this shit is.

Bla bla bla. I’ve hunted and trapped all my life also. I carry a gun because I can. Not because I’m scared you dipshit. You sound like a complete cunt. Bragging about your ability to fight on an Internet forum. It’s laughable at best. Go fuck yourself.
And it sounds like you are living off of your dads accomplishments. Must suck living in his shadow. o_O

So you choose, you pull a gun, you shot, you injure or kill, the perp is taken to the...

That is why...
Rule #1 - You never ever pull unless you intend to shoot because then your gun becomes their gun. Your firearm is not a scare tactic. If you pull, you fire.
Rule #2 - You don't injure, you kill. Leaving someone alive means there is someone that will come after you. Legally or otherwise. If you are justified to pull then you are justified to kill. So, if you are going to carry then you take the time to learn and memorize the laws in your state concerning justified gun use in regards to self defense. There is always a greater chance of having to defend yourself legally if you shoot to injure.

Thankfully I have never had to pull on anyone but I can tell you this. I have read the laws regarding this over and over. I get a copy of it every year and I read it again because laws change. A few years ago the castle laws in my state changed in favor of the home owner. If your going to carry you need to know this information.

I agree you'd better know your laws and keep well informed of they change, because the detectives and prosecutor are gonna be meticulous trying to find some way to pin something on you.

I still stand by my original stance, don't be a fuckhead walking down a street with a gun that you wouldn't walk without a gun. This isn't Charles Bronson Death Wish where you go around plugging punks all night, we've got cameras watching our every move, you fuck up and you're spending years in prison where it's much more dangerous than any street.

That said you must resist shooting someone at all costs, even in fighting arts my instructors always told us to run first and if forced to you fight, don't just stand there because you know you can kill someone with your gun if you want, think long and hard about the power to take a life or severely injury someone, because if you ever do your life is probably going down the toilet, it's much easier to run your away than to cover your ass after you've already down the deed.

I’d gladly kill 100 motherfuckers and rot in prison for the rest of my life enduring all prison has to offer for my family to live to see another day. Just like you say this isn’t a movie thugs don’t always fight fair and rarely fight by themselves. Bottom line you fuck with me and/or my family you are fucked. That being said I never go looking for trouble and I do always stay aware of my surroundings as this tactic can keep you out of lots of trouble. But I’m always surrounded by beautiful women of all ages (my family)and i live on the border with Mexico so I will not hesitate to protect them at all costs. Call that what you want. It won’t change how I roll.

Exactly this . A 12.oz revolver in a pocket or drawer is worth more than an UZI in the safe. 5 shots that will go bang every friggin time. You limp wrist an auto under stress or that $1,000 kimber your screwed. My first round is snake shot, presumably to the face, then four more center mass or to the pelvis with hardcast SWC'S. reload and re assess. Hollow points ain't worth shit out of a snub. It buys you time to get that 870. Loaded with 8'sif loved ones are in house. Outside? 3"mag 00 is a flyswater. I don't care if your on the other side of a car, skip shoot that fellon

Taurus G3C is around $300. Better than Highpoint if you're being "frugal"
This. I carry the G2C. Basically the same weapon system. Pretty compact for a double stack and the price is unbeatable.
And you definitely want to train regularly. You'll want to be an "excellent shooter". Missing your target can mean your life. Or missing your target and hitting a bystander can mean your life in prison. If you can't hit center mass from 25 ft then don't even carry.

I laugh at folks that buy a firearm, put a few rounds through it and then consider themselves “ready”. Disaster waiting to happen.
