First Brew (Test E)

Just finished with my first homebrew,
Cleaned all tools, glassware, and work area with bleach and then alcohol.
Heated with a hotplate with magnetic stirrer at 250 degrees F. (Used laser to test temperature)
25 g test E, 61ML of GSO and .75 ML BA.
Filtered with .22 whatman into vials.
Vials were precrimped, so I'm kinda trusting they are sterile.
Can anyone point out anything I may have messed up, or if something doesn't look right. I'm nervous to pin this stuff lol

If I have to throw these out it's not the end of the world. I have plenty more raws, wanted to start small incase I messed up

You're good. It's just not necessary to go past 150. I don't ever really go over 130. Most solutions turn clear at about 120 in my experience. I like to let it hold around 120 or 130 for 30 minutes or so.

Well I just hope everything is sterile then, I tried to be really clean even wore a mask.
Brewing deca next. Probably will wait a couple weeks for some more stuff, the caulk gun fucking sucked lol.

do you add in your BA once everything is mixed? or everything together for about 30min mixing?

agreed on the 120-130 range, didn’t find a need to bump up any more.

@Gymjitsu how long did it all take to mix up at 250? Your pics look good to me. Did you see any smoke or anything while mixing ?

Yes BA was added once everything was mixed, but the temp was still hot, I didn't see any smoke or anything. My thoughts were it's pretty easy for alcohol to evaporate and didn't know if it had a chance to while I was filtering into vials. I kept the mixer on with low heat the entire time until I was finished. It only took a few minutes for it all to break down, the little mixer is pretty cool.
Will definitely do lower heat next time.

Just one note as the high temp you used was already addressed, (I don’t go above 130-140F either) sterilizing all your tools, glassware and workplace is great practice but it’s unnecessary when using syringe filters into a pre sterilized vial. Absolutely nothing wrong with doing it, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of time doing so.

Here's another question. Since I did like 1% BA, some people do 2% , and im concerned about losing BA, would adding like 1iu to each vial help with that issue? Or am I just being paranoid and thinking too hard?

I had that thought, but I figured what the hell what's some alcohol and bleach gonna hurt. Thank you for advice though, I'll feel a bit more comfortable next time.

One more question for you guys. As I mentioned I was paranoid about BA evaporating out, I used 1%, but I know of people commonly using 2%. My question is if I added say 1iu to each 10ml vial wouldn't that be adding an extra 1% and possibly helping with being sterile. Maybe I'm just overthinking it

I wouldn’t worry about the BA in your situation, I’d say you’re fine.
But another thing to keep in mind regarding temperature... syringe filters have maximum operating temp, usually around 110-120F.

Well I pinned 1ml yesterday morning and so far so good! No pip or discomfort, very satisfied with how things turned out! I'll be brewing my own stuff from now on!
