First time brewing with bottle top filters

I’ve used syringe filters before but never bottle cap. Doing a medium batch of tren a/test p/mast p. What type of membrane filter is concidered g2g now adays? I’ve used nylon but I’m reading that’s not the way to go now and the brewing bible doesn’t state.

Nylon is fine. pvdf flows little better but nylon is fine. How large is your batch because you could use a small new caulk gun for your syringe filters. The bigger syringe filters can handle more volume

my largest batch would be about 500ml. I have bad experience with syringe filtration but I think I used a very small diameter syringe filter (maybe a 12?) and it seemed to be extremely slow.

There’s your problem a 12mm is to small. You want at least 33mm. I’m curious Where did you find nylon filters are not ideal? PES are not ideal. I know people around the gyms that use them with no real problems but solvents can dissolve them.

Reading back a ton of posts it seems like people have preferred pvdf recently. If nylon is G2G I’ll just continue using it because it’s more readily available. I do this all for personal use so I don’t brew often. Seems like brewing changes every year. I may just brew what I need for the next few months and syringe filter it and save the raws for the next cycle then.

Nylon is fine for the standard brews but if you start getting into brews with harsher solvents like guaiacol or ethyl oleate, you’re going to want to use pvdf membranes for those harsher brews

Is not ptfe fine for harsher solvents as well? But I used them for standard solvents before and they are a bitch to push through.

PTFE is great for harsh solvents. I was just answering op’s question about the specific filters he had asked about

Are you doing a hand pump or vacuum? I would say stay away from hand pump if you can. So much fucking work and inconsistent pressure means shit can break.
