Flys

It all depends on your perspective!

If youre a bodybuilder flys are the shit

Powerlifters not so much as they are an accessory

Flys are a great way to end a chest day with a badass pump for a bodybuilding program. I personally love the old school pec deck. Cable flys are also great.
Old school dumbell pullovers are another great way to achieve a great pump at the end of chest days. o_O

Although humeral adduction does occur with chest pullovers, bc the bony attachments involve the clavicle and sternum, this exercise primarily results in a more forceful contraction of the muscle that lies between, the upper chest and sternal pectorial regions.

This exercise is also a nice substitute for those with shoulder problems, especially those which worsen when conducting incline benches.

However technique remains critical bc this exercise can readily be converted one which primarily utilizes the Lats. To prevent the latter scapular movement should be MINIMAL

All great perspectives on here. I believe that flys are a great finishing movement or pre exhausting movement. I can personally get a fantastic peak contraction at the top of the movement and it really pumps my chest up to the absolute max after a lot of pressing motions. It really opens the chest up and I can feel everything stretch and contract. Another thing to consider is how you are performing the movement. If you are using dumbbells, remember that naturally you have to stabilize the weight as you are performing the exercise. That might recruit some other muscles and take away from being able to really focus on the chest. I personally found that using a fly machine or cables allows me to focus on the chest and really getting that contraction on the chest and nothing else. I usually perform about 12-15 reps very slow on the eccentric portion of the lift and I will usually hold the top squeezing for a couple of seconds. Again all perspective. Everyone is different, just try different things in the gym and see what works for you!

I've gone through many phases where I believed this and where I didn't. Personally I have a big chest with or without flys but I believe that's genetics. You can have a fantastic chest workout with or without flys. I prefer incline cable cross overs to flys personally. And nothing gives a more well rounded popped out upper body then incline barbell IMO.

My gym has one that's great, but miss the old plate loaded version.

I tried them Laying on the ground (or bench works) with a bar attached to the bottom cable.. Felt it way more than I do with a barbell or db because I was able to flex/squeeze my chest at the top of the motion with equal resistance the whole way through .

My gym has a plate loaded one, it's probably the most awkward machine I've ever used. Feels like my arms are to short or something

Ive never see a plate loaded one. The one I used was an actual machine, it even had a seatbelt so you could go heavy. I never went heavy, just enough to get a good pump.
