I personally think BMI isn;t very accurate for telling the tale of one's health....especially for an individual who trains with weights. "Normal weight is 18.5 to 24.9." But I think anybody who is on MESO wants to be anything BUT normal. Hello?

I'll use myself as an example - I just had a doctor's visit yesterday...my body fat was under 10%, resting heart rate is mid 50's. So I am very physically and cardio fit. In my avatar I was about 205 or 210 around 6 or 7% body fat. (That's about the shape I am in currently). Now that doesn't strike me as obese. HOWEVER, my BMI is in the mid 30's (34), so clinically, I'm obese. For me to be "normal", I would have to be between about 115 to 150. SCREW being "normal"

5'5, 115-125? That's awesome sister!! Concern yourself more with the mirror, instead of what some inaccurate "indicator" says about your body.

JaPe

PS - who wants to be normal?!

Hey sweets. just noticed your thread. the mirror is your best freind. Just remember that lean and fit, or IMO the effort to be is always sexy. skin and bones is not. we all saw your pics and your doing good. just keep up the hard work, it's always a work in progress...........11Hey beachdog sounds like your doing real good yourself. do you compete or just into being in shape?........11

I have to admit, I've been a lazy-ass lately and need to get back on the bandwagon...i don't compete, but I did run some marathons, otherwise, just want to be in shape.

I'm going to have to say that the only opinion that matter is your own, there is no prob with wanting to go lower (or higher for that matter); just as long as you are happy with yourself

Sweetness, Never listen to what some straight out of shape, stupid Md has to say about your shape. If he's not in the BB/Fitness game he knows nothing about body fat levels!
Not to flame all Docs. but most are idiots! They are only good at knowing their little world of what they specialize in. Even a general MD knows nothing about athletes needs. Ask any doctor how to gain muscle and lose fat, and you'll get some stupid answer that any newbie in the gym knows better than.
Take your own counsel, look in the mirror.

I agree with 11 on this what makes a woman attractive is their shapely feminine curves. It is physically what separates a women from a man...right?
Most guys i know seem to agree. Those anorexic model types that the media keeps shoving down our throats as some kind of feminine ideal is ridiculous and unattractive.
5 5 and 120 does not sound underweight ....depending on your frame.

I have posted pics...I don't feel I am underweight but alot of my friends that see me and my family have told me that I look like I have lost alot of weight recently and I look too skinny...I don't think I do....I am starting to think that they r just not used to seeing me this small....

People will subconciously try to sabotage your training or diet because they know when a person is starting to look way better than them. Its a psychological defense mechanism. The general population doesnt understand those of us that workout and watch what we eat, particularly when dieting.

I got upset with Jewel last night because she kept saying "Cmon, its only a handful of Jelly Belly's!" She has a good idea of how I schedule my diet, but she doesnt really understand. She has always been lean and even now she doesnt workout and still has a nice 6-pack. I think I got her straightened out.

Sure, sometimes a person really can be too thin, but its not often. Based on your last pics, I would say that you arent even close to being "too thin." You looked healthy and in pretty good shape.

I just calculated my BMI. I come in at 31-32, which is considered obese. At 5'9, I would be considered "overwight" at 170 pounds. 160 pounds and Im "normal." The only people I know that are 5'9 and 160 pounds are women.

Sweet, dont worry about your BMI at all. Its a way for the medical community to give a quick analysis of the vast majority (95+%) of the population. Be more concerned about your body fat % and other basic health markers such as blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides.

very true BS. I remember couple years ago my wife and I did a diet together and she ended at about 15% bf 5' 98lbs. which is by no means ripped but at her age she was lean and looked great. well some of her freinds started telling her that she was to thin and didn't look healthy, of course these were the one the eat donuts 3 times a day. they couldn't stand that she was able to stay fit and they couldn't. or should I say didn't want to.............11

Girl, don't worry about the doc's view. He is looking at the average. You can hold weight and still have a low bf and size. When you first start cutting from bulking or from taking a break from the gym your bf is automatically going to drop. It is a shock to those around us, because we do not see it as dramatically as they do. Later as time goes and they see you achive the goals you have set for yourself the will be congratulaling you on a job well done.
As said before the mirrow is your bestfriend. The way you feel the best about your body and self is where you need to be.
I started off @ 5'9" weighing 98-100 lbs. I wore a size 0 pants. Four years later I maintain at 165lbs. 18% bf , size 6 during off season and 142b lbs. 12% bf, size 2 during the on season. You can look small, be lean and still be okay.

yeah, there's a crapload of fatasses out there that screw everything up... damn fat people
