Fructose and fruit

I have a question about fructose and how it effects the body. I always thought it was pretty harmless and didnt effect you or your hormone levels like table sugar. I try and eat at least 8-10 pieces of fruit a day. One of my relatives just switched doctors and he's diabetic. The new doctor told him to stay away from all fruit because that can affect you insulin levels. He was suprised and I was too. My family has a history of diabeties and I try and steer clear of anything that would predispose me to this disorder. Any advice to this subject. I always thought that multiple servings of fruit is one of the most healthiest things for the body.

ANY carb intake will affect your insulin levels. Table sugar (sucrose) is 50% fructose. Overall, fructose has a low rating on the glycemic index and fruits such as apples are around 40-50 on the scale. I personally dont really like fructose as a sugar becaues it preferentially refills liver glycogen, which is not what you want while dieting. But as for increasing the chances of developing diabetes, I dont see it. Overall bodyweight is a pretty good indicator of who has, or will have, diabetes.

Well sure fructose doesn't convert into glycogen so it has no part of protein synthesis in the muscles, it does convert into fat when there is an abundance of it. Does anyone know if this fat is particular where it takes up residence? My Mom was a Phase 2 diabetic. I was instructed to give her fruit, bread, anything with carbs in it if she was exhibiting any symptoms of low blood sugar.
