Gain strength without size?

I'm not sure if it's possible to gain strength without gaining ANY size, but you can focus your goal on strength, instead of hypertrophy. Any powerlifting routine would work. 5 x5 routine is a real good powerlifting routine, but it does cause lots of size gain. Maybe look into Slavic kettle bell training or something along those lines; those guys usually are very wirey and strong rather than bulked up.

What type of routine would I do to gain strength without size?
Lots of low rep training. Think of what Olympic lifters do, a lot of sets in the 1-3 range. For most of them, their goal is to gain strength without gaining size in order to stay within a particular weight class.

So it is possible to gain strength without size? Or is there still some minimal size gain?

Like bob said, those guys have minimal size gains due to weight classes. His BF is another factor. He can also get strength gains and lose some BF of course. Nothing you dont already know. I think the olympic lifters gain size and strength up until they start pushing some heavy weights. Not sure how long this occurs. Such as do they continue putting on size for their first few years of training??? Than, I believe they mostly have strength gains w/o the size increase. I could be off. I would think Freddy could answer this with better specifics
