Germs in the weight room

I've never really thought about it before but there is a doctor that works out in our local gym. He comes in wearing these big leather gloves. As I'm doing my 40 min of cardio I have time to think - like "what does he know that I don't?"

Lol... stop being a germaphobe!

practice normal healthy hygiene and you'll be fine

Gyms are 5000+ sq foot peatree (sp?) dishes full of germs and bacteria. I wont touch my eyes or face when Im in the gym. Just think of how many sweaty pigs have touched the bars and seats. How many times have you gone in to take a piss and some guy just finishes taking a dump and leaves the bathroom without washing his hands? It happens every single day. I wouldnt go to the extreme of wearing latex glvoes to the gym to lift, but I wash my hands immediately after working out before I head home. The sweat is the least of my concerns.

Just for the record, I never ever wash my hands after taking a dump, jerking off, taking a piss, wiping my ass, blowing my nose, picking my nose, scratching my balls, or tickling my asshole while at the gym. I don't mean to be a prick but I'm not going to let a miniscule waste of time like washing my hands hamper my workout. I'm that hardcore.

Haha good way to put it.I am the same way, but your explanation is as good or better than mine would be.

just wash your hands regularly. It is disgusting thinking about it. Take a microbiology class sometime and you would want to wear latex gloves in your own house. Lol peatree dish hehehe nver seen it spelled that way

I always spray/wipe equipment w vinegar or chlorine before using it.

About personal hygeine ... have you notice how many guys on this board boast about having anal sex and are also squeamish about germs? Reminds me of some pro hockey players I know -- they'll have unprotected sex with the same girls but go faint when they realize they've shared water bottles by mistake.

About washing hands ... quite a few public health people I've spoken to believe that washing hands may actually promote some infections ... theory is, your hands are already covered with colonies of bacteria that don;t make you sick, which prevents new bacteria from establishing themselves.

It gets confusing when this stuff is brought up. I am a believer that anti bacterials can cause more harm than good.

LMAO "tickling my asshole" funny shit

Yea I always wear my workout gloves now and NEVER touch my eyes and try to avoid scratching myself. I got soooooooo many damn warts on my knee's from the mats at my gym from fighting on them during jiu-jitsu class. Then my dumbass got them on my hands, mainly my knuckles. From now on I wash my hands for at least 30-45 seconds after finishing my workout. And DONT use gym towels, I got a viral skin infection on my chest from them called molluscum, apparently its a type of pox virus like the chicken pox but it makes wart like looking things. The doc told me I got them either from sharing towels or swimming in a public pool, and I can't remember the last time I've been in a public pool. Anyway they're not harmful or anything, I just got them frozen off but the doc said they would go away on their own in 8 -12 months but I didnt want any damn wart looking things on my chest for that long so I opted to get them frozen off.
