getting solvents for first time homebrewing

Hello!

i am getting ready for homebrewing for the first time.
i just had a question about solvents
do BB and BA have to come in a glass container?
i have seen them in plastic containers but it just seems screechy

Get them in glass, they're solvents. You'll want glass for sure. Look up med lab supply or alpha labs, hell you can get it from alpha labs on ebay or amazon
Medlabsupply sells them in plastic. I don't believe it has any effect on the BA or BB

Plastic is fine. Not all plastic can be corroded by the solvents. Look at acids. Not all are stored in glass. Sulphuric acid as an example…

Probably depends on the plastic. I don't recall ever getting solvents in glass, but I do remember one time I left some bb in a plastic lid for a couple weeks and it dissolved some of the plastic.

My experience too. Only solvent we use that I regularly see in glass is Guaiacol. Most everything else is in plastic

I see quite often the lids being a different plastic then the bottle itself. You would think manufacturers wouldn't be this dumb let's say you store the bottle horizontally using those cheap bottle tops they can easily eat through and start to leak

If you recycle a lot, you'll notice that lids are usually a different plastic. Milk jugs are #2, and screw caps are usually #5. Maybe threads on a screw top aren't as durable if they're #2, I don't know.

As far as solvents go, the bottles usually have a foil seal under the cap, so until you open it, it's not in contact with the cap. They might do damage to the cap over time after being opened though. TBH, I tend to buy enough for each brewing cycle rather than buying in bulk.

Fun story - when I first brewed a number of years ago, I used a Scilogix bottle top dispenser to fill my vials (yes, I sterilized it first). Whatever plastic they were using at the time was *not* resistant to BB or BA; I got two compounds into vials, and then all the plastic was crazed and cracking. It completely failed before I was able to do the third compound. I switched to a used BrandTech 10ml Dispensette (thank fuck for eBay), and had no more problems.

I get my bb in glass bottle
Chances are it’s just been decanted from a big plastic 5L (or bigger) bottle into smaller glass bottles. Certainly all the UK chemical suppliers (legit use companies, not from businesses catering as a one-stop-shop for AAS homebrewers & UGL’s) sell both BA & BB in plastic bottles ranging from 100ml - 5L+, which they wouldn’t be allowed to do under EU / UK law if the plastic containers weren’t stable with those chemicals.
