Caging humans for drunk driving doesn't address the real issue.
If I drive while I'm falling asleep because of exhaustion do I go to jail?
If I drive while on antihistamines?
While distracted?
If I speed?
If I have a seizure?
My eyesight is bad?
Being drunk is probably more related to the morality problem, it's a short coming for the person in a society heavily immersed in guilt and shame.
Drunk driving is also big business, it's a huge windfall of cash for LE. They depend on drunks, they don't want it to stop at all.
Sending J-burton to jail for 4 months is expensive. It would be cheaper to give him free uber rides several times a day, than to have him locked up on the taxpayers dime. That would completely remove the threat of him drunk driving, but that's not what the courts want or our society because we like to be sadistic, we want you to suffer, we want to ruin your life, mark you as a criminal, brand the scarlet letter A into your forehead and dunk you under water as a puritan revenge.
We've got to stop our broken ways of thinking that all non-violent offenders need to go to jail/prison. Time to start using our noodles to solve these problems in a more constructive way that keeps a person moving forward and improving their lives.
