I like a few of the Chicago blues guys an a couple of the more modern electric blues guys from the 50's and beyond but my meat and taters is the old grimy delta blues played on a acoustic with or without a old stomp box, you know the kind they sound like they were recorded inside of a tomato can lol. One man band blues will always be heavy in rotation when driving or working.

Lightnin' Hopkins and Skip James would be my two favorites out of all the greats from the Deep South.

Funny you mention skip james, i was going to mention him as he is my favorite. I love that old gritty sound you're describing.

Lorde does kind of have a cool voice. Yeah older country is not all bad, that new stuff is just god awful though.
