i am a huge gun buff. i love to read aboutum, shootum, cleanum, take about them. i have a permit to carry. i am curious how many people out there carry, what they carry, ammo they use. also, are cops allowed to pick their own ammo or is it issued and do they have to qualify with their choice of ammo? right now i carry a tarus pt940ss with the .40cal hydro shocks.

I carry around a Taurus .357 mag. Shoot whatever shells walmart stocks. Haven't shot it much. I also have several shotguns. For high powered rifles I have a 22-250, 243, 308, 30/06, 270, 7mm mag, and a .300 weatherby magnum Mark V deluxe. The shitty thing is that I have to use shotguns here to hunt so most of my high powers have never been shot. The others have been shot less than 20 times.

i was in the market for a 308, what kind do you have> have you shot this one/ how do you like it? yeah i hunt in newyork alittle with a 12. but at home i can use whatever, a guy i go with uses a 50.cal for doe, head shots only

I have places I can shoot. No land of my own but access to land. Dont know if there are any actual ranges here or not

Thick, do you have any land or target practice areas near you?

Rem. .308 it was my dads. It is at his house currently. Kick ass gun with a kick ass scope on it. Perfect for deer hunting. That is the one high power of mine that has been shot a ton. My .243 is brand new. Traded a rottweiler pup for it. Never has been shot. Same with my 7mm mag. My 30/06 is also used. I traded a rott pup for it also. The .308 is a kick ass gun if you find a good deal on one jump on it

i consider myself a good shot, so i don't feel that i need alot of power, but next season bear and dear will overlap, so i need somthing that can bring down both, lotta guns out there that can, but i like the distance the 308 can give you. last dear i got was with a smithy .357 6 shot wheel gun

For deer and bear check out the ballistics of the 7mm mag and 300 mag. They kick the shit out of other calibers. You cant go wrong w/ the 308 or 30/06 though and ammo is so much cheaper

for personal protection, i use one of my .45 ACP's, loaded with 230 grain hydra-shocks. my fav is the kimber, but the commander is a very very very close second.

i also have a 7mm Rem Mag. love it. its a savage, heavy bull barrel with an on/off muzzle break. black synthetic stock. cost all of $280!! beats a 30-06...although i'm not trying to trash the ol' '06. but the 7mm goes further, faster, flatter, and with more UMPH.

i also have a 45-70 marlin guide gun. DAMN, cant wait to take a NY whitetail with that puppy. there was a 2 part write up on it in "rifle magazine". they took it africa. it went through a zebra diagonally...about 5 feet worth. but that aint nothin' yet. they stalked a cape buffalo bull(approx 1600 lbs) as he walked to a herd. when thy spotted him, the dude took a shot, broadside) at about 100 yards. penetrated both shoulders(the bones my friends), and went into the cow cape buffalo that was 5 yards behind him. went through her shoulders(again, the bones) and lodged under her skin on the far side. i hope if i take a whitetail with it that i'll still have some meat left.

have a nice day

damn that is some power in your arms with the 45-70. I totally agree on the 7mm and 300 mag but the ammo is worth taking into consideration if you shoot alot. That is a steal of a price for the 7mm. Mine is a Remington model700 bdl. I would not trade my weatherby .300 mag for anything. It is truely a beautiful gun

i carry a taurus pt101 40 cal and sp101 ruger 357 around.i like my taurus pretty good, its a cheap auto but it has never jammed and shoots quite well.the 357 is a stubby and will deafen you.its louder than the redhawk 44 i think.as far as rifes and shot-guns to many to list but my favs. are my super black benelli and brown superposed o/u.both in 12ga.as far as rifes im a short action fan and i find myself partial to .308s and .243s.i have others but can never put these down.all my rifles are mostly rugers.anything from groundhogs to deer and black bear can be taken with these.my favorite is my m77vt 308 with a 4-14-56mm springfield scope.its been worked over and will shoot a 10 shot group in less than a dime at a100yds with my 168gr handloads.im wanting to biuld a .243 or may that new .204 ruger soon.
as far as cops go they "should" shoot with the bullet they qualify with but i know many who dont.here most issue hydros, but many including myself(not a cop though) perfer the gold dot.

I have a few guns.

Beretta 9mm 92FS
.270 Weatherby Mag (my favorite)
Browning Citori Over/Under (12 Guage Mag)
.243 Ruger

Now here is a cool gun story for everyone:

One of my great/great grandfathers was a Texas Ranger. This was back in the late 1800's (dont know the exact date). However, my family has his gun and one he took from a bankrobber during a gunfight. They are considered family heirlooms.

My dad has too many guns to mention, but they will all be mine when he passes.

[MK]

P.S. In the old-west movies, when they have people shooting apples, cans, etc. from long distances with revolvers, it is completely false. The guns were never that accurate. My father had the bankrobbers revolver (which takes .45 Colt ammo) bench-tested and the total spread was immeasurable. More than half of the bullets didnt hit paper. For any gun enthusiasts, you know that is absolutely terrible. I think it was a 25 yards, but it was too long ago to remember.

That's zeroed at 100 yards,139 grain bullet and I'm not sure about the speed.Plan on getting a chronograph soon to check the speed of my guns and my bow.The gunsmith that built it said it was faster and had more knock down power than the 7mm mag.

as for the cops in NYC, they carry hydra shocks in their 9mm's. nothing else is allowed. unless you still carry the old .38cal 6 shooter. last i remember they were loaded with semi-wadcutters  .

authorized duty guns are the glock and smith & wesson. they tried the ruger "P" series, but it didnt make it. Sig's made the cut, but were later dropped due to "corrosion problems"....only NYPD. for back up, you could still carry a .38, or the Khar 9mm.

im not calling you a lair, but just misinformed.there is no way that is possible.it would have to be traveling at about 5000fps or maybe more to do that.a 7 stw drops over 14 inches at 400yds at a 200yd zero!and that with a high bc of a barnes bullet.

sig .50cal bolt action. have you seen the movie navy seals? its the gun God uses

I guess to each his own but thats way too much gun for deer hunting.I don't own 1 but I would think the ammo for that thing wasn't cheap.

I'm just telling you what I was told by the gunsmith. That is the reason for buying a chronograph.I do know for a fact that it only drops 1/8 inch from 100 yards to 300 yards.I have shot these distances myself.
