guys losing their sex drive on TRT

This is just an opinion but worth noting. Many claim their sex drives diminsh after using T for a few months even though all the hormone levels are in good ranges. i thing alot of this is in their heads due to the fact that some experience atrophy. this causes a psychological effect in my opinion,it had for me in the past. remember, those that lose testicles to cancer and who are given T report normal libido and erections. do not automatically associate smaller testicles with a lower sex drive. also worth noting, when the testicles are normal size the penis tends to hang better and appear larger.when the testes shrink, the opposite apperas to happen. this is why hcg is valuable, hcg also causes more sensitivity in that area as well . as i do advocate the use of hcg,if someone does experience atrophy but their T levels and everything else are fine(estrogen),do not let atrophy be associated with a low libido.

good points all. Now that Swale has been at this for a few years, I wonder if he has some relative percentages of males for whom testicale size is an issue and what percentage of males on trt encounter shrinkage.

I'm not sure I am in agreement with you on this I have not had or wanted sex in over 4 months and was having problems before for months before that. This is the longest I have gone without it in years. My nuts have been gone for a looong time as I juiced for years before going on TRT.

I hope that HCG will help out with this, at this rate I will surely die alone as I have absolutely ZERO interest in women. My mood has improved and several other "issues" are much better but the sex drive is still virtually nil. For a while there it was almost nice not having to think about sex all the time, but I kinda miss it now.

Well

before TRT I had some "performance" problems and after TRT (even with the one shot a month treatment) for at least the first three weeks it's like being 18 again as far as that department goes.

a few of my friends in their 50's, some married and some not, have the same experience. It's a pity. Get with a good doc and get back. This complacemency about "not having to think...." is not a sign of health nor long term happiness.

Hi,

First comment on this site.

When TRT amounts are below what you need to reach the high normal levels of 800-1000 your testicles are shut down and only the amount added per day is what you get. Many doctors are timid and do not have decades of experience treating andropause with enough T to be effective. Caution and fear of law suites drives a new doctor into poor treatment amounts. Too often the package will say what the dosage is and it will be under stated also scaring the doctor away from higher amounts.

**EDITED BY SWALE: PROMOTIONAL POSTINGS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BY THE MODERATORS** who has been treating andropause for decades uses the following dosage formula:

Subtract 30 pounds from the total weight and for each remaining 10 pounds the patient should receive a 75mg pellet with a max of 20 typically.

So for a 230 pound man 1500mg (20 pellets inserted under the skin) which will last for 4 months, dissolving 24/7 and this provides 12.5mg/day. No further patient involvement till the next visit.

I have one of if not the best TRT doctors on the planet the great SWALE as I am lucky enough to live about an hour from the "man Cave". My levels are fine it took quite some time for me to get tuned in because I was a dumb ass and took some OTC supplements in an effort to raise my sex drive as I had a GF at the time and she was pissed I never wanted to have sex with her.

I have been kicking around the idea that this is all in my head somehow but I really do not think it is. I go out with friends to the club, beach, etc it is just not on my mind. This is what convinced me something was up. I had an extremely hot (I am talking a 10 here) stay at my place for 3 days and did not even think of making a move on her!

I recently turned 33 and found myself thinking well maybe I am just getting old, but that should not be an issue as my levels are good to go.

Things are going so well in every other aspect, my depression is MUCH better.
My body fat is way down since getting my E under control. I am almost afraid to mess with anything at this point.

Back when I abused AAS and my levels were probably off the charts and through the roof, I was having sex 3-4 times a day. Is it possible that I screwed up another mechanism or pathway responsible for sex drive by doing that for years?

I am really at a loss here, if my numbers are good, what could the problem be?

ernestnolan thanks for the input, around here pellets are considered somewhat archaic, my levels are high normal and somewhat stable as I use Cyp on a weekly basis.

HeadDoc your input is always appreciated!

don't give up the cause my friend. Perhaps your recovery is a slow long term sequential phenomenon. If you compare the number of years it took to get this way, how many years into recovery do we have?

Thanks for that, that is a good way to think about it. I am not educated enough to know all of the mechanisms of the body and mind needed to have a strong libido. Enough to get me into trouble however. I do know that for years my system was overloaded with hormones that did not belong there. That is a very intelligent way to look at it, this may just be a time thing as you said.
Thanks again!

Mark,

Here's hoping that things will work out in a positive fashion with your situation. My problem is somewhat similar in that TRT brought back erectile functioning and "some" of my libido, but after a peak with the libido it seems that libido is sliding downhill somewhat (that peak being a couple months ago - and that was nowhere near where libido was 12 - 18 months ago... my hypogonadal state came on very abruptly with an onset of hypercortisolism).

Anyway are you on any other medications or anything that may have a detrimental effect on your libido? Just as an example, most SSRI type anti-depressant medications will wreck havoc on one's libido. I am sure that there are other meds that may have the same effect (in my case, I often wonder if my hypercortisolism has had an effect on lowering libido levels).

Or, like HeadDoc says, it may just very well be that more time is needed to return sensitivities, etc.

I have had a lot of issues with depression, I am had ssri's in the past and yes they totally killed my sex drive. I now use Welbutrin and that does not effect libido as far as I know in a negative way. I am also on Provigil 200mg a day, and klonopin 2mg a day. I have cut down the use of Klonopin to about 6 mg a week or so as It helps me shutoff my mind so I can sleep. I know that can have a negative effect on libido perhaps that is contributing to the issue.

bigmark: I've been on Klonopin for about 5 years and I know that for me, if there is too much, it has a very hefty impact on my libido. Klonopin is very sedating (as you know) and it sounds like you're taking it for the same reasons as me (insomnia/anxiety). I'm down to .75 mg/night now and have been there for awhile. The difference in libido at 1mg is very noticeable for me. Klonopin has a long half-life...taking it is like having looong buzz from a few drinks.

I've been slowly trying to ween myself off of it, but I haven't been able to drop below .75. When I do (like down to .5), I can stay there for a few weeks, but my sleep slowly starts to become a problem, so I jump back up.

Ernest:

The simple fact of the matter is there is absolutely no way to predict what dosage of TRT is appropriate--no matter what form of TRT is being administered. This is true of gels, patches, test cyp IM, HCG, AND pellets.

This is a real problem with pellet implantation: they can take a year to properly titrate dosages. In my vast TRT experience, I have yet to meet a patient who did not want his TRT dosed right YESTERDAY.

Currently, TRT is witheld if PSA elevates substantially. What is this happens while a patient has pellets imbedded? Surgery must be performed immediately to remove them. I am personally familar with several such cases.

Testosterone pellet implantation also exposes the patient, unnecessarily IMPO, to the risks of ALL surgical procedures: hemorrhage and infection.

To be fair, many competent physicians do recommend testosterone implantation, and many men have been successfully and well treated by them. But for the reasons I have listed above, plus others such as added cost for the procedure (which makes this choice more attractive for some doctors who want to make more money by recommending them), I do not use them in my practice. Absolutely no one has complained so far.

Also, postings of a promotional nature must be pre-approved by either HeadDoc or myself. If such posting is made, and neither of us is familiar with that clinic's work, same is edited until cleared.
