Hi gals,
I've been away for a while due to general life chaos. But I come bearing gifts!
Due to the differences in DHT metabolism in girls and boys (haha), beta estradiol products do work wonders for girls. Sadly, they are not FDA approved: you can get the prescribed for you in Europe and buy them over the counter in South America (google AVICIS).
Then, little me did some research about local DHT conversion blocking and it occurred to me that why shouldn't estriol work as well as, or even better, than beta-estradiol? To my surprise (sarcasm), I was not the first to ask this question and there is already a patent for an estriol based product.
Now you are going to ask me: so what?
Ladies, this is the cream used for vaginal hormone treatment... easy to get and FDA approved for girls
Yes, I assume it's kindda weird to get a tube of vaginal estriol and spread small amounts in your scalp. But in conversation with very knowledgeable endocrinologists, they admitted it was an excellent idea.
You know, for 10 years I lost a little hair, but it was manageable (with beta estradiol and minoxidil). It got a little thinner, but it was manageable. But then suddenly came mega-stress and I lost 60% of my hair. The fact that I'm a Nature aberration and the only human to whom deca is highly toxic (causes major hair loss and lipogenesis, plus injury pronness - not kidding) didn't help: I only confirmed this weird reaction after 6 months of use because of injuries, which developed to much worse.
I had to cut my long, straightened hair that looked so much like the child me. I cut it, I now let the curls go wild, and I think it matches the major life changes I made.
I have another gift: finasteride + levothyroxine for us girls. Small doses (lower than 2.5mg) and the levothyroxine, only if your blood tests show it is decreasing. So not a major concern. But finasteride in small doses for us do not have the same side effects that it does for boys. Plus, it does have major effect on DHT conversion.
It's an alternative - think about it, talk to your doctors.
Hair is psychologically far more important to girls than to boys. It was shocking to watch my hair fall, grow thin, dry (yes, the follicles stop producing oil)... part of my identity was falling with it... with the torn muscles, tendons... with the changing competition plans.
So, I hope you enjoy this post and it gives you something to think, to research and to talk to your doctors. Talk to your doctors!

Finasteride 5 mg/day Treatment of Patterned Hair Loss in Normo-androgenetic Postmenopausal Women. - PubMed - NCBI
PS - there are not many studies. Some show no effect, which is probably related to the fact that, well... they are not on AAS. The post menopausal women are closer to our situation
