In each of those cases, the masses stood by like sheep and allowed a relative few to dominate them. The same is happening with ISIS as hundreds of millions are scared of a few thousand murderous animals.
It's a sensitive subject for some, but there was a time when Japan had designs on conquering the world. But annihilating a few hundred thousand of their people with a couple of bombs killed their will to fight pretty quickly

Terrorism isn't a productive tool if history teaches us anything. Sure it can shake and rattle a states structure. But in the long run the worlds population knows it isn't healthy and certainly isn't a solution.
The topic of reducing defense spending is over. Obama attempted to lure the millions post bush administration. But terrorism is a real threat to the world economy. Any future president is a fool to think peace will come during any term. Much more defense budget cuts and proposition on reduction being a possibility.

The US had become much more involved then ever in preparedness programs for widespread catastrophic events ranging from natural to terrorism. I think more then ever we get the clear picture. Being we could ultimately face a battle against ourselves in the future.
