Help? Torn Trap doing shrugs?

I was at the gym today, stretched and did seated shoulder presses, 6 sets various reps. I moved on to shoulder shrugs warmed up with 225, then skipped up to 315, did about 2 sets of 10. Then jumped up to 405, did 2 sets of 10. On my third set about 4 reps in, I feel a snap in my right trap. I immediately loose strength and feel shit isn't right. I lower weight to 315 and attempt to do more sets, I feel my trap is not right. I put the weight down, skip on to upright rows and notice my strength is not there. I finish upright rows and move on to abs. Once at home I can visually see my right trap is not the same shape as my left side. Obviously the pain starts to set in at this point and I have been popping Ibuprofen, tramadol, and muscle relaxers. My girl has been massaging my trap and said she can feel the difference in size and hardness from the other side. My question is, do I need to go to the emergency room, or should I give it a couple days to see what happens? Has anyone experienced this kind of thing? Please help?

Ive never experienced it. But I would go in. I had a small tear in my pec awhile back and tried to wait. Time didnt really help (or the fact im stubborn and wanted to keep working out). The quicker you get it fixed the quicker you can get back at it.
At the worst the ER gives you an xray / scan, finds nothing, and gives you some pain killers.

That's all they ever do around here. The diagnosis usually goes something like "Yep, you're hurt, no idea what's wrong but here's some painkillers and muscle relaxers".

Oh trust me. I know. My healthcare is built around giving 800mg ibuprofin for anything. But most docs / hospitals are quick to do xrays just because they can charge for them.

Ya, I've been reading all of you guy's posts. Thank you all for responding. I'm thinking if I rest it and leave it alone, it will magically go back to normal over the next 2 or 3 days. I guess I'm denying to see the facts that are placed in front of me. Btw, jaymaximus that was some funny Chris Rock shit. Hey, may be I'm missing the robitussin... that's the cure, lol.

You just gotta know your own body. You know the difference between being sore and being really hurt. No reason to wait if youre injured.

I hear ya brother, my trap is definitely tweaked, but after looking at some photos of torn trap's online, I think I may have avoided disaster. Mine is not so disfigured. I'm gonna rest and medicate, and see what happens. If my condition worsens, I will seek professional assistance. I'm not one to go to the doctor at a drop of a hat. Hoping for the best. Thanks for looking out.
