Highest form of life indeed

Is there any other from of life that routinely kills members of its own species? Yes, I know fish eat each other(including their young at times) but, typically, the muskellunge eats the blue gill, not the blue gill eating the blue gill.

If a bear is walking with her cubs and someone threatens their serenity, the mama bear kills THE INTRUDER, not her cubs. What do humans do with their kids? They beat them, rape them, starve them, sell them for drugs, etc.

How many people were murdered last year? I don't know, but it's too many. And why do we kill eachother? Money, drugs, jealousy, hate. Animals don't even kill each other and, yet, we(humans) claim ourselves to be so much better than the lowly animals.

Doesn't quite seem that way to me.

Sorry, I watch too much Law&Order. LOL

Actually Male Grizzly's will kill their own cubs or any cubs that they come across..Same with Polar bears... so will Gorilla's .. they will often kill their own offspring so the female will go back into heat. Hyena's will also kill each other over power struggles or for food.

There are many species of birds that prey on their own..NOT to even mention insects... some of them will even canibalize each other while mating...

I knew there had to be some of it going on, that's why I asked. I knew about the insects. I think the killing the cubs to put the bitch back in heat is hilarious. LOL

like phreezer stated...most male animals of any species will kill offspring to bring the mother back into estrus....hamsters , rats....lions, bears, apes and chimps commit murder, and gang beatings on outsiders to their group...it is in animals nature to use violence

also thats one of the lame ass excuses the animal rights people erroneously try to use "man is the only animal to kill its own kind"

Oh shit! If I'd have known that one, I'd never have said anything.

Now look what I went up and did. ;(

I sat in my garage one day and watched a female black widow mate, and then kill and eat the smaller male. Little did she know, that bitch was only seconds from dying herself! :D

at first i thought you had jumped on the tree hugger bandwagon...lol

Yes, as mentioned, with most animals the male will kill the offspring of any other male he happens upon as he wants his DNA passed on.

You make a good point Mr. Grizzly but you are forgeting one crucial distinction, humans have emotions. Yes this is a weekness but it is also our greatest strength.

Well, I seem to have been slightly mistaken, though that it why the first sentence reads as it does. However, the main point remains. Peoples try and pretend that we're so much higher than the aminals(I did that on purpose) and, yet, we do the same things. Hmmmmm.

I don't think that we are higher than the animals. We just have greater capabilities. We (i.e. humanity) are capable of being much more evil than any animal. Could an animal create an Auschwitz? Yet, we still can be good. At our better moments mankind is noble. It comes down to how we choose to be.

Rod this is what makes us "higher" than animals.
