Home Gym Eye Candy

Nice setup! I thought I had a good setup but ..damn! Home workouts took my physique to a whole new level. It's nice having no excuses to get a good workout in.

Very nice bro, that's a great set up. I train at home also, have done for many years. Have just been away for work and had the opportunity to train at a gym. Got to the front door, seen how busy it was around the machines and thought fuck that I don't wait for anybody to get in a set. I turned around, went for a walk and considered it my cardio day. Clearly I am anti social. Either that or the luxury of training alone is unbeatable ;)

When I'm away for work is the only time I hit a gym anymore and there have been many times where I've done the same thing you did and just skipped it because there is no way I'm waiting to do a set or ever worse having someone standing over my shoulder waiting for me to finish in the power rack.

Very welcome addition to the forum...

Just made me decide to go the home gym route...

I have a lot of commitments with business, family life etc and miss a lot of training sessions due to not being able to get to the gym half the time. Will start having a look for some gear now, I was planning on a home setup a long time ago but couldn't get the exact stuff I wanted I'm a fussy fucker and wanted rubber coated pro style dumbells all matching complete set lol will settle for whatever I can get and upgrade as I go. Cheers for putting it back into my head dude

Thanks for the kind words Ricardo. I would do exactly what your suggesting get something functional to start with and then just keep trading up on CL. It is almost stupid how excited you get when you find something you have been looking for at a great price. Strike quick when you see it-immediately email them and tell them you will pick it up in an hour or that night (whatever is the earliest you can get there) the good stuff goes quick and people love it when you offer to show up quickly with cash in hand.

Also watch for package deals, listed like complete home gym or something similar. Most people are looking for specific items so the package deals don't get as much interest and a lot of times you can low ball and get a really good deal. I bought a lot of package deals knowing I only wanted one or two things and was going to re sell the rest.

Thanks for the info, picked up a bench, bike, bar and small amount of plates last night, will be keeping my eyes peeled!

Sounds like a good start. If you check CL several times a day when you have a few minutes you should do well.

Sick set up... I was just admiring my new home gym but now it's like seeing some chick way hotter than your girlfriend... now I'm gonna have to work out in the dark and pretend I'm fucking that gir.... I mean working out in your gym.

Post some training stuff! We need it here. I know how to run my mouth without any help but I am ALWAYS looking for new programs... I'm just getting back into powerlifting and just hopped off cycle- FEED ME CUTTING PROGRAMS!

seriously man- welcome. Great intro.

Thanks for the kind words Brutus. I hear you man, no matter how good your girl, I mean gym is, you will always find someone else's that makes you jealous.

Be glad to help on the training stuff. My general observation based on a lot of the avi's and other pics on here is that guys are doing a good job on their dieting and being pretty jacked but most lack the size I would expect.

This is very basic and everyone on here should know it but I'm not sure how many do. Once you have some experience under the bar your program should be based around the basic compound lifts of squat, deadlift, some form of bench press and some form of OHP. Additionally, the upper back should be worked hard with some form(s) of rows and pull ups.

After warming up each workout should begin with one of these lifts. Accessory work for abs, biceps, etc should always follow and never be done before the main lift(s). The bigger body parts should get the most work. In other words you should be doing more sets with heavier weight for your lats, quads, chest than for your biceps, forearms or calves.

If you get proficient and handle enough weight in the compound lifts the smaller body parts will be getting plenty of additional stimulus aiding in the compound lifts. I do an average of 5 or 6 sets of bicep and 7 or 8 sets of tricep work per week and my arms are 17 inches cold at 190 pounds. My triceps get plenty of work from all of the pressing I do and my biceps benefit from lots of deadlifting and upper back work.

Obviously, this advice doesn't apply to competitive bodybuilders but they aren't likely to be looking here for training advice anyway. This however is solid advice for anyone who wants to add both muscle and strength.

As far as your particular situation Brutus I need more details about your training history, weight, diet, goals and I would be happy to work with you on a cutting program that will get you stronger as well.

Gym looks awesome my man.. You can easily charge yourself $30 a month for that set up!! Lol

Can't wait till I have one to call my own!!!

Great set up. Makes me want to add more to my home gym. Look forward to your future contributions to Meso. Thanks.

Thanks greendog. Unlike a lot of other things I've spend money on I've never regretted buying anything in my home gym.

Hope to be able to add something here. It will likely be on the general iron game knowledge or training as I'm learning from you guys on the AAS front.

Cl isn't used where I'm at, second hand plates sell 2 euro per kilo :( and are snapped up quick still haven't added anything else as of yet looking for a power rack, most of my training in the gym consists of dumbells (I train on my own have a fear of getting pinned under a bar) and machines, rarely use a barbell for anything other than squats and deadlifts, going to have to go back to the drawing board and sort out a new workout routine (I've been using the same routine for 7 years (always change it up each week but it's a variation of the same) any suggestions on workout routine with just barbell and plates ?

Working out at home is the only way. Il post pics of mine when I finish. Just some tips for those going that route (in order of importance), here is the equipment you should get.

1) power cage, preferably with 2" or less hole spacing. Best bet is to take pictures to local fab shops and ask how much to build and compare to like rogue or elitefts

2)adjustable bench-elite and rogue both have nice ones, but the best is the nebula awesome utility bench by far.

3) nice bar- easiest place to get one is rogue or one of the crossfit places online.

4) wooden rings- I suggest christianfitnessfactory brand. This is the most versatile piece of equipment there is for a home gym.

5) pull up bar- similar to the rings. Rogue has good one or build your own.

6) powerblock dumbells- I suggest you start with the u-90 stage 1 set. Not expensive and you can add to it with the expansion packs for up to 125lbs per hand.

7) prowler-any type of push pull sled. Can be not only used for cardio but with handles and straps to do almost any exercise.

8)sorinex hurricane- extremely versatile piece of equipment. Expensive but just plane awesome.

9)heavy bag/speed bag/nice jump rope

10)pit shark- belt squats, weighted pullups, weighted dips, weight pushups, rows are just a few of the exercises that can be done with this machine.

That is the top ten list imo. Of course things like a sold platform, rubber stall mats(tractor supply is cheapest and best) come first and plenty of bars. Alot of stuff you can make especially if you can weld/fabricate.

I will try to spend more time in this section and will post up how to's every so often.

Hey Ricardo, if you have room the best investment you can make is a power rack. With the safties it will allow you to use a barbell to bench and squat without the fear of getting pinned.

Here are the best movements for each body part with just a barbell and plates.

back
deadlifts
bent over rows
pendlay rows

shoulders
Overhead Press

biceps
barbell curls

triceps
overhead tricep extensions- only if your elbows can handle them

If you can get a power rack and a utility bench you can add in

bench and floor press for chest
squats and front squats for legs

and you really have all of the basics needed for many solid programs like 5-3-1 or 5x5 etc.

This is a solid list. I'm not a wooden rings guy but they are a useful piece of equipment.

I have no idea what a sorinex hurricane is but based on the rest of this list being solid I may have to check it out. Somewhere down in the 7-8 range I would also add dip bars as a lot of strength and muscle has been added by doing heavy dips. I do have a prowler which due to my limited basement space I push outdoors. I also have farmers carry handles which are a solid training aid as well.
