Venous thromboembolism can be precipitated by both genetic and acquired factors, but the role of testosterone therapy is less clear.

Here, we present a 17-year-old transgender adolescent, transitioning from female to male, receiving both estrogen and testosterone therapy, who developed a pulmonary embolism without an underlying genetic thrombophilic condition.

As transgender medical care evolves, the use of testosterone as cross-sex hormone therapy in adolescents is likely to increase.

Our review suggests that care must be taken when initiating treatment with testosterone, and modification of other thrombophilic risks should be explored before starting therapy in this population.

Why keeping an open mind to things like this is important. I do question how it is deemed ok BY ny doctor for a 17 year old. We all kids are not able to think long term consequences. hell no smoking or drinking you can barely drive but to be able to medically change things permanently questions a doctors ethics

Like Pitbull stated it’s one thing for a adult to make his/her own decisions about his/her body, It’s another for a under age child or teen to be aided in the transformation of there body before there even old enough have gone threw puberty or just to know them selve’s.

There’s a big push nowadays to make sure children know that they can be a girl if there born a boy or vice versu.
