Hey guys.

I'm hopefully going to do a small batch soon and was wondering how u store and sterilise the beakers and stuff?

Just alcohol and heat in oven? Doesn't seem that sterile.
Does anyone just buy the stuff over again to ensure 100% sterility?

Beakers that are used pre-filter do not need sterilization. They just need to be cleaned with a detergent or lab glass cleaner and rinsed with distilled water. You can dry them in the oven to reduce the chance of water spots and shorten during time.

I use rubbing alc and dist water. Placed on a heated drying rack. As long as you have a good filter its not that detrimental to have completely sterile glass wear

Docd - microbiologist here, like over a decade post graduate and in the lab.

I don't feel comfortable with the advice to wash only. I would have contaminated samples and throw away a ton of work if every piece wasn't sterilized.

I personally autoclave all non disposable equipment directly prior to use.

Edit - want to be clear here,I like docd and never have issue with his advice. I've been a home brewer for a little over a year, maybe I am the one over doing it.

after use I acid bath all my glassware, esp buchner bases in either hydrochloric acid/distilled water, or piranha solution, then rinse with hot tap, brush with detergent, rinse with hot tap, finish it with a DI rinse and if its a piece of glass that's going to hold sterile gear, I remove all DI with pure acetone, place in oven to dry for 10 minutes, transfer into autoclave pouches and run the cycle. media bottles that will be filtered into along with buchners are autoclaved right brefore use and will stay in there until the moment there hooked up. storage, pretty much just in pouches... you can store your glassware wrapped in foil inside of foil face (usually the shiny side) touching glass.
