I shared this in a PM but decided to make it public again since my post is now lost in one of the threads here.
Test base and every other base need lots of heat. I can get it to hold permanently at 50mg/ml with 25% BB and no guiacol. I’ve made it at 75mg/ml with 30-40% but it eventually crashes. I throw it in my pressure cooker and bring it up to temp for about 5 minutes and it’s good again for a week or more. With 3-5% guaiacol you can get 100mg/ml to hold. Here’s how I do it.
Put raws in beaker alone. Mix BB and oil together and pre warm. Heat the raws until they become liquid, once they start melting set the temp so it stays steady. Now add 1/4 of the prewarmed oil and BB mix and leave stirring for 15-20 minutes, then add another 1/4 and repeat this process until everything is added and then leave another 20-30 minutes. Add BA(3% to help hold) and guaiacol last once you turn off the heat.
The key is to get the mix hot as possible without overheating or oxidizing the mix, smoke is bad and you have to start over. The raws have a much higher melting point. Once I add oil and BB I’m working around 250 degrees Fahrenheit and I hold it between 200-250. It’s a bitch to make but if you try this let me know how it works out.
