How much protein at one time?

The Russian's have published research that said 4.2 grams per Kg of bodyweight was optimal.
Or it could simply be the extra calories that were ingested. Protein utilization drops off rapidly after roughly 1g/lb.

science is always about 4 steps behind the bodybuilder

do you think the pros design their aas cycles and diets around what they read in a science journal?

I think not

You may want to look into the research done on training and then re-evaluate that statement since bodybuliders are lightyears behind science when it come to training.

Moreover, BB's are not ahead of science; they're ahead of mainstream America.

#1, what works on paper doesnt necesarily work in practice

#2, bodybuilders are ahead of science when it comes to building muscle

which was my original point

Hey Bob,

At what point do the number of grams you consume become overkill?

thanks

And you base this opinion on what scientific studies?

In terms of # 2, I think you are way wrong. Out of training, nutrition and drugs, the only one that BBers are "ahead" of when it comes to science is drugs. Thats the only way that #2 would be correct. In terms of training methods to build muscle, the vast majority of BBers are way behind.

KTCK, I dont think there is really a point of overkill so much as there is the point of "why bother." At some point it just becomes much more economical to use carbs for added calories rather than protein. For protein intake, IMO, 1.5-2g/lb would be at the very top of the range. 1-1.5g/lb is a good reasonable protein intake.

Too bad Bob and Frosty beat me to it, but would you care to tell me about your BB's supercompensation training methodology, Adogg? Yeah, that's on the cutting edge of science....not.

You said you thought what elephant was taking in is overkill, but he would only be taking in 2g/lb.

Russian Bear 5000 weight Gainer Take out the milk
Some of your post are quite confusing. How do you mean take out the milk? Do you mean have water with it? If so whats your point?

. I eat around 550g of protein a day. I haven't always eaten that much and i don't reccommend one jumping from 200-550 b/c you cannot digest that much easily. My body reacts very well to this amount, however, your's may not. My gains have been outstanding but that is because i am in tune with how much of what and when my body needs it. Find that for yourself and you will quit getting so many confusing answers

I totally agree! If the last meal or two you feel like you are force feeding yourself that "gotta have" protein ration, your body is probably telling you something. Other times, you will find yourself craving more protein than what is suupose to be rationed per your eating schedule. You will find this craving/repulsion changes throughout the week. Also, have blood and urine tests done every 3 months. Have a chem panel and UA done. Your doc will let you know if you have an elevated BUN or any other signs of excess protein. Granted, I am no physician. I am a former phlebotomist, but I did ask the lab techs a lot of questions.

My question is, for the average person on gear, is 1-5-2.0g/kg adequate? Actually, I guess I just answered my own question. ;)

600 mg of protein daily...is disgusting and unhealthy....Think about your liver and kidneys! 450mg's daily is the most one should consume considering height and weight...anything more is destructive and a waste of $$$!!! im 6'2'' and weigh 255 and I consume 350g protein daily with great results!

You weigh 255 and think 600mg of protein is alot? Give me about 10,000 times that amount. What do you do? Lick your finger, stick it in some whey, lick it again and done for the day? Id think you just had a typo, but you did do it 2 times.
