How to add 50lbs to your Squat overnight

Hi,

I am a relatively new member. Been working out for 20 years on/off (probably 12 on, 8 off) and powerlifting dedicated the last year. 420DL / 310SQ / 250BP. Have 4 cycles since 1998, and touched Primo, Var, Win, TBOL and Test E. Clen, T3, EPH for weight loss. Sat at 11.2% BF and 220 pounds a few months ago, 6 foot 3.

This summer, I started training Bulgarian, and found great traction in that. Worked out 10-12 hours per week, just on the basic 3 exercises every day, and saw results with PRs every week.

One night, I had the most amazing session in the gym. I had squatted (PR) 220 pounds the day before, and warmed up at 80% of that with one set of 5. In my second set, I repped out 5 at 220, and the speed was amazing. I stuck another 20 pounds on, and 5 more reps came flying up. At this point, I just went for it, stuck another 20 pounds on, and the same thing happened: 5 reps at decent speed. The last one was tough, though, so I added another 10 pounds to my next set. At this point, I had PRed twice, had had 10 reps of a weight previously untouched. And what happened? Up with the first rep. Then out came the second. And Third. Then Fourth. At the 5th rep, 50 pounds over previous PR, my trousers ripped in the hole so my bollocks came popping out. But the rep was delivered. 50 pound PR overnight.

Bulgarian kicks ass. And probably the fact that I was in my 6th week of Test E did contribute not ever so little LOL

Anyways, I look forward to learning with and from everyone on Meso, safe training !

I'm more confused about why you've been training for 20 years and your PR for squats is 310lbs?

I was not going to go there but yeah. Those numbers are similar to what I was doing natural. With gear you should be getting some more strength

Unless you have sustained an injury, I believe most should be able to squat 315 natty... IMO

Also IRT OP. I dont think it was training that increased squat. Probably not much AAS. It was mostly just lifting the weight.

For almost a year my max flat bench was 245. Did it everytime as my max on chest day. Then one day I was feeling it and added another 10. And another. And another. All the sudden one day I had done 275. (This was pre AAS in my world).

I didnt do anything special to add 30 lbs. Just stopped bsing and using what I was comfortable with.

With his squat being low already it was just a matter of adding the weight. Just my opinion.

Welcome to Meso OP. PLers are always welcome!

Good point and thanks for the welcomes ! First of all, I have been working out for 20 years (probably 8 off, 12 on), but only done power lifting the last year. Before last year, I was going to the gym with less of a mature program. Injury, knee reconstruction and half of the hamstring taken out, has left me with some physical obstacles, but I ain't complaining.

Am more worried about my bench, though, which is tragically low and plateuing. Am running 5by5 now, and am throwing in drop-sets to see if that gets me through where I have been stuck for months now.

Many people here will be able to help you with that

Stick around. If you havent found it already, theres a real good thread about increasing bench in the training section. And quite a few SMEs willing to help anytime theyre asked.

Edit: Damn youre fast @Wunderpus

I think I found it. Its the up your bench thread, right? So I now do 5by5 at 75% of 1RP. One strategy can be to go to 5by8 at 65% and see if I respond better to that?

The odd thing is I feel a lot harder when I do chest over 3 times per week, but I am not sure if "hardness" translates into "stronger".

Or I could just say f... it and start snorting Halo (!)
