I see this topic is back on the boards. I went thru this a long time ago, and again at the start of this year, so I am somewhat of an expert at fixing this problem.
The main issue with paxil and other ssri's is that they inhibit your ability to come, but generally they do not prevent you from getting a hard-on. Some bro's report that they don't mind this problem since it makes them a hero to their wives and gfs. In my experience it gave me a terrible case of blue balls -- after about three weeks I used to bend over so much while walking that I looked like the stand-in for the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
What to do if you experience this issue (and BTW, only a minority do)? Well, first of all I wouldn't do anything until the paxil takes effect and starts to beat down your depression/anxiety. Business before pleasure. This can take up to four or five weeks. After five weeks if the stuff ain't working, talk to your doc about upping the dose or trying something else.
OK, so the stuff is starting to work and you can't bust a nut. What to do? Well, here are four tricks to try. You can try them one by one or combine them all for greater effect.
#1
A very small amount of test might do the trick. Andriol worked for me. I imagine Androgel would do just as well, or as little as 100 mgs of injected test each week.
#2
Once you feel the paxil working, time your lovemaking for Saturday and Sunday, and take last dose of paxil for the week no later than Friday morning.
#3
Divide your daily dose into 3 and take each one with a meal.
#4
Lower the dose.
A final note -- some family doctors pass this stuff out like it was aspirin. SSRIs can be very effective but they are not a cure for depression. At the same time as taking paxil you should be working with a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist (not one of these poorly-trained or self-appointed "psychotherapists") to get to the root of your issues. I recommend a form of tried and true therapy called Cognitive Psychological treatment of depression. For more info Google the phrase Cognitive Therapy.
