I'm really sick of having a chubby stomach...could i get some opinions on the best way to get washboard abs? are crunches or sit ups better? thanks a bunch!

Its all about diet. You already have abs, just too much fat covering them. Lean out through diet and excercise- get yourself a program. You need single digit body-fat percentages for a six-pack.

You can do all the ab work in the world and with a high body fat % it won't matter. There is no such thing as spot reduction. Like youngbuilder said, diet is the key.

thank you guys for the advice, one more question... I am also trying to stack on some muscle, i don't have any access to AS so I'll be doing it naturally. are pushups a good enough way to get a ripped chest or do i neet to be using the bench? i'm right at 5'10 185lbs i'de like to lose about 4lbs fat but gain about 15 lbs muscle. can i do this naturally? i'm trying out for ufc and i'de like to fight in the light heavyweight division. thanks you guys your advice is much appreciated!

Please God, tell me this guy is in high school or this is a joke.

Man, if you are serious about your quesitons, you can't believe how much reading you need to do. First off, read ALL the stickies (the threads at the top) of the training section. Then read them about 10 more times until you understand everything in them.

Second, of course you can gain 15lbs of muscle naturally. Do you actually think that everyone who had gained 15lb of muscle is on steroids?

Third, doing pushups will not give you a "ripped" chest. Diet will give you a ripped chest. If you want a big chest and big muscles all around you have to lift weights - free weights - and heavy.

Fourth, I hate to break it to you, but the fact that you had no idea how to get a 6 pakc and no idea how to "get a ripped chest" tells me you don't have a snowballs chance in hell in fighting in the UFC - unless you are 11, and then you shouldn't be on this message board.

Finally, if you start lifting weights hard tomorrow and don't stop, don't start taking steroids for at least 10 years from now.

you can't loose fat in your abdominal region by working those muscles more, it just dosen't work that way. if you loose the fat by dieting you will see your abs, crunches won't do that..

want proof, look around in the gym to the guys doing all the crunches, chances are many of them have large bellys, yet the do crunches every day

sorry animalmass it sounds like i kind of pissed you off with that question, no harm intended.i'm 22 and i've been a kickboxer for the last four years but i've never really done any weight training. i took the gold medal the last two years in the texas kickboxing championship and i feel if i can add on that extra 15lbs muscle i'll be unstoppable. i was hoping to get some support from you guys:) animalmass...i know you've been around a long while so your advice means alot to me, thanks.

No you didn't piss me off bud, but I did some MMA fighting a while back and virtually all the guys that are in it are pretty jacked and have some amount of knowledge regarding training, diet, etc. I'm just surprised that you could have been kicboxing for 4 years now and be pretty good at it and have literally no clue how to train or eat, etc.

The best advice I can give you is to read all the stickies in the training forum first. Make sure you really understand them. Then we'll take baby steps from there.

you can make them more visible through the phat if you work them out more, since they get bigger with time of working them

but as you said gotta loose the phat first so diet

Well if you gain 15 lbs. of muscle the new people you'll be fighting will have that extra muscle to. That's the thing about weight classes. So you'll probably be as unstoppable as you already are unless you change your fighting.

Bigger muscles covered by the same amount of fat will only serve to make you look more fat.

Cut some calories, do some good training, and youll get where you want to be. Hell, Ive dopped almost 30 pounds since January watching what I eat and working hard in the gym.

Yeah, for the most part I agree about abs being made in the kitchen. But the lower abs, you know the last ones to come in and complete the six pack, they come in best from having lots of sex. That's just my experience, anyways. Actually, there may not be a directly positive correlation between having sex and ripped abs... except that ripped abs will make it much easier to have sex frequently. ;)
