How to perform a proper melting point test?

Lol. Must have been a flood of orders. Bastards.

It works well and the dual laser feature is perfect for centering on a small pile of powder.

yeah i know. clicked on the link last night and was like, these mf'ers raised it already...

it does look sweet though. i would like to pick one up soon

You could always use a thiele tube and thermometer, its the cheapest and very accurate, what you need are these:

a chemical stand
a thiele tube
a bunch of capillary tubes
a thermometer
a bunsen burner
and oil

you can get all that for like 100usd and its the way chemists used to work until electronic melting point test machines came out.

I was just going to say, thinking back to my ealier chem days, the easiet way is with capilary tubes and thermometer. Ditch the bunsen burner and just use the stove.
