HST - no gains in first 3 weeks, question...

I thought I'd put on 1/4 inch but after taking arimidex found it was all water. I'm back down, so 3 weeks of HST, and no noticable gains in size.

After my workouts, I feel like I need to work out...

Anyone else have similar experiences? I'm wondering if I should go to 3 sets instead of 2 for my 8 exercises (right off the site). I'm on 750 sust, and feel like I'm not even working out. The tens are getting harder now that weight is finally getting up a little, but still, at the end, I think "did i just work out?" I'm used to being pretty tired, in the good way.

I will stick with this, but just wanted opinions about jumping to 3 sets. I was thinking of doing it the HST way. Monday, 2.5 sets, tues 2.8, and wed the full 3 sets. Then for my 5's definitely starting out with 3 sets, because a lot of guys on the HST site said they seem to lose size on the 5's. but that's my personal growth area, in the lower rep range (I must be more fast twitch).

I am finishing my first cycle of HST. I have not measured since the beginning. However, I have not had a "not worked out" feeling. I am doing ten exercises, two sets each. I have upped that to 3 sets on my last two weeks of 5s. Maybe the first couple of workouts of each rep scheme were relatively easy, but, by the end of each "mini-cycle" I am toast by the end of the each workout.

Did you get pretty close on setting your RMs? I estimated mine and found that I was off on some ( it will be much closer on my second cycle of HST). If you underestimated your RMs, maybe that is why you don't feel taxed. I am clean other than Dr prescribed HRT (150mg/wk).

At 46, maybe I just tire more easily. :D

Nah, I'm 44... but on 750 test, maybe that's the dif. Heck, I run 2-3 miles and feel like I haven't done anything. Never been on this much test before, maybe that's the problem. But you'd think I'd grow more.

Thanks for the feedback man.

The first time I did it I had to really slow down my reps during the 1st wk of 15's ,10's and 5's .I put on 7lbs and lost some BF. but the second time thru it felt alot different. I just finished my 2nd wk of 5's and It's a bitch during a cutter.........11

as 11 said, slowing down the rep speed is a good option. and if you're on aas, you may want to do 4 sets per exercise. i just finished my 2 weeks of 15's today (second round for me) and i see further improvement over this 2-week period. btw, i am doing 3 set/exercise and definitely feel it. for 5's, my favorite rep range, i will do 4 sets/exercise.

now, it could well be that you are just used to doing more volume overall. i've never been a big volume guy. i can get a huge pump from 1-2 sets, literally. it could just be better mind-muscle connecition on my part but i feel, the quicker the workout, the better. and besides, i'd rather do other things than spend 2 hours working out, but that's just me. my bud, on the other hand likes to spend 2 hours in the gym, 6 days a week and if he doesn't do this, he doesn't feel good at all. personally, i can't use it but to each his own.

and finally, this may not be the workout for you. it's not for everyone. just finish off your 8 weeks and then assess your results. if you like it, go for another round. if not, go back to the routine that works for you. at least you tried so now you'll know. all the best for the remainder of your hst. :D

Thanks guys, yeah, I did slow reps down on 15's, the 10's are actually hard to do, just have plenty of energy left over and am not feeling like I worked that hard.

I'm going to take your advice, Chip. 3 sets for 10's, and 4 for 5's.... that feels nice.. (grin)

Thanks for the posts guys, it's really helpful to hear your thoughts.

Just be carefull not to over train. when you get to the 2nd round of 5's, wk7-8. It catches up to you real quick. you might regret those extra sets at that point............11

Then I'll try to drop back if progress slows or it's that hard.

That 2nd week of 5's, maybe 3 sets will be enough by then.
