I freaked out today...

Went in for my MRI today and guess what? I freaked out! Well, I didnt freak out I did start to have problems with the confined space though. Ever since my panic attacks started I have developed action devices that allow me to calm down and direct my thoughts away from ones that are causing the anxiety. These action devices usually require mobility like getting up and walking and/or using arm and leg movements to distract myself from the anxiety.

When in an MRI you cant move and quite frankly, I felt trapped. I actually start having anxiety about having anxiety. Thats what happened in the MRI. I started thinking about what I would do if I had a panic attackthen I started getting anxious about that possibility. I would be trapped, unable to use my action devices and then I could launch into a full fledged panic attack. Then what would I do? Well, I aborted the MRI is what I did.

Im redoing it on Saturday but this time with some Ativan to help take the edge off of the nerves. I dont know if this will work but I hope it does. I want to get to my TRT treatments and I have to go down this road to do it.

I know I could do an open MRI but as I understand it many of the open MRIs, at least the ones made before just a couple years ago, do not image as well as a closed MRIs because their magnetic fields is not as strong and the scans take longer which has a higher chance for patient movement. At least thats what Ive read.

Anyhow, wish me luck on Saturday, I hope the Ativan works!

You sure you're not thinking of a CT scan? Last MRI I had done sounded like a freaking jackhammer...and that was with earplugs on!!!!
