ICU medical vial spike? B9909

Ok so one full squeeze? Do you have it rigged on something or just hold the vial in one hand and the caulk gun in another? Thats how I do it lol
I leave the vial on the table and I don't touch it, then I attach the fill needle to the filter and attach filter to the 60 mL syringe.

I stab the syringe into the vial while holding the syringe in my left hand, and then I attach the syringe into the caulking gun which I am holding in my right hand.

From there I am just standing there giving one full squeeze at a time, both hands holding the caulking gun. I have to be a little careful to not move too much and knock over the vial which just sits on my desk.

Ok so we basically do the same shit lol I just do it sitting and holding both things lol. I guess I have to get used to the new caulk gun. Its definitely much more stronger than the cheap home depot one. But that cheap one is my baby LOL!

Just did some more filtering. Used these vial spikes to draw out all the liquid from the remaining UGL gear I had.

I recommend not drawing up more than 30 mL into a 60 mL syringe because the pressure gets very high... last time I tried to draw up like 45 mL into the 60 mL syringe and the plunger fucking exploded making me lose the oil and the syringe too.

A stronger caulking gun absolutely works. Holy hell I cannot believe I used a cheap $5 Home Depot one. I went from taking a full minute to push 1 mL through a filter and straining hard to being able to filter a full 30 mL in like one minute. The 25G needle is a bottleneck and so is an 21G needle... 18G needle would be best.

When filling a vial (got this 30 mL one from KSTek on AliExpress), poke an empty needle through the rubber stopper so that you can fill the vial way more easily.

Awesome post. One question how come you didn’t use vial spike and push oil into that through filter? I was planning on using 10ml syringe by hand. Hopefully not a huge job to filter 20ml of gear

Yeah if you're just filtering 20 mL of gear, I would not bother at all with getting a caulking gun and massive syringes. It could probably still be a pain in the ass though so be warned.

What do you mean exactly by using a vial spike to push oil through the filter?

Do you mean something like:

* Put vial spike into empty vial
* Connect one end of filter onto the vial spike
* Other other end of filter to to 10 mL syringe containing oil
* Push on syringe plunger, which moves oil through the filter and into the vial spike and into the vial

If that's what you mean, the reason why is because one end of the filters I have is luer lock (screw into syringe) and the other one is luer slip (connect to the 21G needle). I don't now if the luer slip can be inserted into this vial spike (I have never tried it), I always screwed my syringes into it.

If my filters were luer lock on both ends that would be an option...

However another reason for not doing it is because I don't need to use these vials right now, and so don't want to attach a vial spike. They are going to be used 10-20 months down the line and will just be stored in a box in the meantime.

I went through the process today. I tried through the vial spike. It worked well except it seems to keep some positive air pressure in the vial. I thought the air vent on the spike would allow it to equalize pressure. The second bottle I did with 18g plus a 27g vent needle and went very smooth.

I used 10ML syringes by hand wasn’t too bad took about 10 minutes for 2 vials and nice forearms pumps. Sort of a pain may change the setup in the future.

Doesn't make any sense to do something like this lol
